Deleting old backups

Thread needs solution

I am new to Acronis but I am wondering how to delete old, duplicate?, backups. I have backed up twice and Acronis created two versions on my usb hard drive. If I backup a third time will older versions be removed, appended or what? I basically want to keep only one backup.

a) select the backup from the Acronis "home page"
b) Explore all versions
c) Select one of the dates/backup at bottom of screen
d) Right mouse button for context menu
e) Select "Delete Version" to delete that specific backup file

David,

If your backup scheme is the default version chain, ATI will first create one file for the full backup, and then a new file for each new incremental/differential backup. I discourage you from deleting intermediary files. ALthough it should be working for differential backups, there are often issues.

You can set the backup scheme to be single version. Then ATI will do one file for the first backup, then another one before deleting the first one.

You can also set the backup to your custom scheme and choose auto-cleaning options. For example, you can set ATI to create a full, 6 incremental/differential and then start over, but keeping only 4 chains. see attached.

If you tweak your settings, I recommend you start a new backup task in a new directory. When your backup strategy is stable, you can clean up the older backups when they are old enough for you to do so.
