waking from hibernation when not wanted
I created my back up and scheduled it to run on Thursdays at 8pm. My practice is to hibernate my XP machine whenever I'm not using it, sometimes for days. Next day I noticed my machine became unhibernated on its own; it was days before Thursday, but since it was after 8pm, it occurred to me to check the backup configuration. Indeed the default "wake if hibernated" was checked. Unchecked it and saved. Later hibernated the machine. Next day, and again, still not Thursday, after 8pm, the machine was awake. Checked the setting, and it was still off. I know this must be the software because my machine has never awaken on its own before and I've been using hibernation for years. What gives, and how to fix it?

I have had the same issue for a couple of months now, though it didn't happen (that I know of) when I first installed ATI 2011 after its release. All of my tasks have the "Wake computer" setting unchecked, yet every day, as soon as the task is scheduled to run, the system wakes up from hibernation.
Is there a solution for this? It is very aggravating.

A couple places to check.
1. Look in the log file and see if it shows any listing in the time frame where the computer has awakened.
2. Look very carefully at the Windows tasks (not Acronis tasks) and see if you may have other software which may have awakened and starting to look for updates or scans, etc.

I have no other background tasks that cause the system to wake. The wakeup times move when I change the Acronis backup start times and are precisely coordinated. It's Acronis, no doubt.
And while I don't have a lot of forum posts, I am certainly not a "beginner".

Sorry Steve,
My comments not a reflection of your skills. On a new laptop, I found more than 20 Windows tasks. Each different program wanted to check for updates. My reason for asking to check the log files was based on past instances of rogue tasks running but the tasks did not show in the listing of tasks. In order to fix that issue, all the old tasks had to be deleted and a new scheduler downloaded and installed.
This KB article listed in item 9=N of my signature index but may not be applicable if you have no rogue tasks.
In the 2011 version, one definite place to check is the validation option in each task as the monthly or scheduled validation default setting may still be enabled.

I checked the system logs. There is nothing I can find that says WHY the system resumed from hibernation, but it did so 30 seconds before the Acronis task was scheduled to run. As I noted earlier, if I move the task time, the wake time moves with it.
The Windows Task Scheduler is, oddly, not showing any tasks as having been run, but there are no TrueImage tasks in the list that I can see. Validation is set to monthly, but the wakeup happens daily.

You may want to check control panel/power settings to make sure they are still set based on your preferences. On My Win7-64, there is a power setting option which controls wakeup timers.
Change when computer sleeps (option)
Change advanced settings{option}
Sleep option
Allow wake timers
On battery (choose enabled or disable)
Plugged in (choose enabled or disable)
The logs I was asking to be checked was the Acronis logs in case I was not clear.

Steve,
Double check this is Acronis. It might be obvious, based on the schedule, but worth a double check:
After the computer wakes up, launch a command prompt and type powercfg lastwake.

Is there more to it than that? All I get is:
C:\Windows\system32>powercfg lastwake
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 0
C:\Windows\system32>

You should see more information after your computer woke up... Weird...

Here is what I got after just waking up my computer with my mouse.

The reason I am not seeing moire info is that the wake is from hibernate and not sleep. If I sleep the computer and then wake it I see more. I don't see any obvious way of reporting what woke the computer from hibernation.
The focus in these responses seems to be on Windows and wake timers. My point is that it's True Image that is setting a wake timer even when it has been told not to. If I look at the Windows Task Scheduler, I see no tasks that fired close to the time that the system woke up. TI is evidently using its own scheduler - is there a way to view its entries other than the limited (and wrong, apparently) info in the UI?

Download the ACronis Schedule Manager (schedmgr.exe)
http://kb.acronis.com/content/1859
Verify you don't have a rogue task running. You can map the task IDs to the scripts in the c:\programdata\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder. These scripts correspond to backup tasks and their validation tasks.
Each script should have one schedule and vice versa. Each script should correspond to one scheduled backup with its scheduled validation in ATI.

Well, isn't this interesting. Here's a task with system_wake_up set and, I am partly embarrassed to say, this corresponds to a backup task that DID have "wake system" set. This explains today's wakeup, but not the prior ones. I'll have to watch this and maybe sleep the computer rather than hibernate to see if I can catch the action.
Why does this say "hidden"?

I don't know why it says hidden.
YOu can zap all your tasks: type Task Zap.
This will delete all the schedules. Not the tasks. ONly their schedules.
Then, you can recreate the schedules and verify the validation schedule settings.
