"Can't reach this page" browser message and Active Protection

Thread needs solution

Any thoughts on this issue potentially related to Active Protection?

I’ve been getting occasional "can't reach this page" messages when loading web pages, using the Edge browser. The page displaying this message appears for up to about 3 seconds then the intended page loads successfully. I’ve done a bit of testing and it’s looking like this only happens when ACPHO Active Protection is turned on, but I can’t say for sure as it’s such an intermittent problem.

It can’t be related to DNS or firewall settings or some such, as I say the page does eventually load OK.

I also get the impression that pages do sometimes take a little to longer to load with protection on, but that may just be my imagination.

Stephen, within the Protection settings for ACPHO is one for Web filtering which could contribute to the behaviour you are seeing.

Thanks Steve. Nothing's actually getting blocked, but it could be that the filtering process is delaying the page loads.

I'll try some more testing, but it could be difficult to pin down given the intermittent nature of the issue.

Running ACPHO is not especially important to me, but I thought as it's there I may as well make use of it - IF it's not going to cause any problems.

You could test with the web filtering option turned off and see if you still see any lag in opening pages?

I have now done some more monitoring of the situation with web filtering both turned off and on and can be reasonably sure that the web filtering does indeed cause the slow loading of pages, and also the "can't reach this page" messages, which may be a knock on of the delayed loading.

So I will leave web filtering off but the rest of the protection turned on, as this doesn't seem to cause any performance issues.

I have Malwarebytes installed, so this together with the browser's own features should keep me safe.

Thanks to Steve for pointing me in the right direction.
