Restore from Multiple TIB files

Thread needs solution

How do I restore an image that is spread over three TIB files all residing on an external hard drive in a separate folder.

I am using XP and want to restore the image to a new, identical HD. It is unclear how to get Acronis 11 to use all three of the files via the menu system. Please provide direction.

Hello Scott!

Thank you for finding time to join us and open the thread regarding this question, I'll gladly address it.

The answer depends on the type of the backups.

If you have a full system backup or data with 2 incrementals, you need to point the product onto the latest incremental backup, and it will automatically recover all three images.

If you have a full backup system or data with the differentials, you need to point onto the latest differential backup (it contains the latest most updated data). After that the product will automatically restore the differential and the full backup. If you need any data from the first diferential, you will need to mount it and manually take the information from it.

If you have three system backups, you will need to choose one, and recover it. After the recovery you will need to mount the rest of the images in order to retrieve the information. Otherwise each next recovered backup will re-write the information on the drive, and previously restored data will be lost.

If you have three full data backup, you will need to restore them one by one. Currently, unfortunately, we do not have a functionality of specifying the product the chain of full backups to be recovered, so the process must be started manually. Still it is a reasonable function, and I will send your comment to the Development team for them to check whether there is any opportunity of implementing it in future releases.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Scott,

Can you describe the file sizes of the 3 reported backup file?

1. If the first two files are exactly the same size (about 4.4-GB each) and the 3rd file is smaller in size--all with the same date, that would sound like you have one backup file and it is split into 3 segments.

2. If the dates vary on all the backup files, then that would imply multiple backups.

If your backups is the #1 type, you can boot from the Rescue CD and checkmark the disk as the which item is to be restored. This particular method is listed in the Restore guide listed in item #3-A inside my signature index below.
