Discrepency in scheduled full scan run times on different machines

Thread solved

I have acronis cyber protect home office advanced installed on my 3 computers and have protection enabled on all 3. All 3 machines scan about the same number of files. They all have different hardware configurations; one has a Core i7 processor and 12gb of DDR4 memory, another has a Ryzen 3 processor and 64 gb of DDR4 memory, the third machine has a Ryzen 5 processor and 64gb of DDR4 memory and completes the task the fastest. Why does it take about 2.5 hours on two of them but the other only takes about 30 minutes?

Don't know if this would be the difference or not but the fastest scan is on the computer that has an Ethernet connection to the router; the other two use 5ghz WIFI.

Rick, can you turn off internet access on all three and then see how they compare? Or switch from wi-fi to cable on one or both of the others.

FYI, the protection checks with the Acronis servers every five minutes and depending on how much data they wish to pull that could make a difference.

My next try would be to monitor running processes while scans are running. Task manager might give a clue.

You've mentioned processor and memory but nothing about the drives being scanned. Any major differences there?

Rick,

You can likely attribute your differences in completion times to the differences in your hardware.  The Ryzen 5 rig having 12 cores versus the Ryzen 3 having 8 cores means that simultaneous processing commands will run faster on the Ryzen 5 than the Ryzen 3.  The i7 is the lowest performer of the group but not far off the Ryzen 3.

Enchantech - That's a good point. But, that would mean that it is scanning about 1562 files per second. Is it that fast?

Thanks.

Rick,

There is little information on the abilities of the current Cyber Protect Home Office when it comes to multi-core multi-thread abilities however, my experience on my own machines shows that the product does a good job of leveraging cores/threads when in operation.

To figure out if your systems use multiple core, multiple thread, you can go into the task manager, verify your app is running, check to see how much memory and CPU are being used, then open the performance tab to visually check how much of each core is being used.  When doing this look at all Acronis services listed to get a full understanding of what is going on with each of your platforms.

Enchantech - Thank you. I did pause protection and ran a Windows Defender full scan and it did take about the same amount of time; 8 minutes.

Rick,

That's a good comparison.  Hardware makes all the difference and multi-core/multi-thread apps that leverage the hardware pull the hardware capability to higher levels.

Enchantech - you were right. Hardware makes all the difference. Last week I replaced a Ryzen 3 with a Ryzen 5 in one of my machines. This machine had the same hardware as the fastest machine except for the processor. Now it is just as fast as my fastest machine, completing the scheduled scan in about 9 minutes.
