Not enough disk space

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

Ive recently purchased a new MX500 cruical SSD to replace my old ssd and am trying to clone my old drive.

However, after downloading Acronis true image and as im trying to install it, it says that there is not enough disk space to finish the install.

I currently have 2.36gb of free space on my C drive.

How much space does the install take? or is something else the problem

Any help is appreciated,
Bobby

Bobby, welcome to these User Forums.

Please see KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products - as this applies to your ATI product provided with your Crucial MX500 SSD

The size of my installed ATI 2018 application shows as only 756MB on my computer, so it sounds like perhaps the downloaded installer you are using may be corrupted in some way.  You may need to go back to the Crucial download site and try getting another copy, or contacting them for support.

ATI will only install to your Windows OS disk drive, normally shown as C: so there should be no problem installing when you have over 2GB of free space available.

I would recommend reading forum topic: [IMPORTANT] CLONING - How NOT to do this  before attempting to clone your drive so that you understand some of the issues that can arise.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the help.

I ended up clearing another 2gb of space from my C drive (somehow haha) with a total of approx 5GB free and the install worked fine. It only took up around 1gb of space after the install so i dont really know what the problem was.

Bobby, glad that you got to the bottom of this issue with installing - guess that I haven't had a situation where my drive space was as low as 5GB or less, so haven't seen this behaviour before, but thanks for your feedback confirming it.

Hi Bobby,

Came here, had the same problem, needed to clone because my C Drive was full, I deleted programs I could reinstall later until I had about 3.9GB left, watched my available space as it installed, it dropped down to about 500mb at one point. When it was done I had about 2GB available, then after a reboot, 3GB. Seems like you need 3.5GB free to run the installer to completion.

The entire reason I bought a new SSD is because my current one didn't have enough room. So what in the holy heck am I supposed to do when I don't have 5GB left? Guess I'm just out of luck?

Dear Major Englush,
In order to help you, we need to understand what exactly happened. Can you please explain it more clearly?

The recommendation for SSD's is to have around 20% free space available on the drive to give good performance.  If you are running any SSD with less than 5GB free space then you are going to see a lot more issues than just not being able to install the Acronis application!
