"No data to recover yet"

Thread solved

After running Acronis successfully for a week, (full computer, Incremental scheme), to an external hard drive, I decided just to see what would display when I selected the "Recovery" tab. And this is what is displayed: "No data to recover yet. Create your first backup version to see it's content here."

So... I know the backups are successful (Acronis says they are), I can see them on the external drive, but, if I need to do a recovery, Acronis is also telling me there's no data to recover. What's going on?

Thanks

Baron, there is a known issue where your scenario can arise.

To fix this one or both of the following actions may be needed:

  • Perform a Validation for the backup task.

  • Use the option to Add existing backup and select one of the task backup files.

In essence the linkage between the files and the Recovery panel has been lost and needs to be re-established, which doing the above should do.

Hello Steve,

Sounds easy enough. If I may be so bold as to ask:

After I turn the Validation option on, after I run another backup and it completes the validation, assuming the files are now linked to the Recovery panel, may I turn off Validation, or does it need to be left on? The Validation process seems to take forever.

Baron, there is no need to do what you suggest - highlight your backup task, click on the caret 'v' at the right of the task name and select the validation option from the task menu shown.  That will perform a one-time validation.

Oh. Too late. Already ran a backup, and it's validating now. Assuming it works, I'll turn it off.

Well... that didn't work. After the Validation completed (successfully), I rebooted the whole computer just to be sure everything is fresh. Opened Acronis, went to Backups, selected the Recovery tab and it's still telling me that there's no data to recover yet. Yet Acronis tells me that over 650 MB was backed up!

(I have to say, I'm becoming disappointed in this program.)

OK, so your second suggestion was to add an existing backup. After I click on "Add backup" a window opens with two panes. The left side has the hierarchy, and and the right pane displays what's in the folder selected on the left. The problem is that no matter what I click on, the "Add" button at the lower right never lights up. It won't let me add anything.

And I just noticed that when I open the folders on the left all the way through to where the files should be, there are no files displaying. Only folders. Yet if I use Explorer to access the target drive directly, all the files are there.

What am I doing wrong?

This really shouldn't be as difficult as this is turning out to be.....

Baron, there are two different options - the normal '+ Add backup' and to the right of this, hidden behind a caret 'v' is the second.  "Add existing backup" which you need to use!

Hello Steve,

I was using the "Add existing backup option", and as described, there was nothing there.

Regardless, I solved all the issues by uninstalling Acronis, thoroughly removing all remaining folders and files related to it, reformatted the target drive, reinstalled Acronis. It works fine now. All is well. Thank you for your advice!
