Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Workstation -- Management console hangs on Windows XP & causes CPU utilization to rise to 100%

Thread needs solution

The local machine's Management console hangs and results in 100% CPU utilization. Here's the context:

- Backup and recovery of local hard disk (Platform: Windows XP)

- When recovering, the backup archive is being read from an external hard disk. Tried a couple of different external  hard disks -- still the hang in the Management console.

- Already tried the suggestion to ensure that data transfer mode for the hard disk controller is set to DMA and not PIO only -- per http://kb.acronis.com/content/2293

- Also ran this vbs script to ensure that the data transfer mode is DMA -- https://www.acronis.com/r/support/en/kb/929/resetdma.vbs

Any clues would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
