Cloning error Error 0x13c0005

Thread needs solution

Hi, really struggling with this. Trying to clone my NVME SSD to another but cannot get past this error. Have tried a few basic things (wiping free space, closing other programs etc) but don't know what I'm doing really so have hit a wall.

Any help really appreciated!

Fergus, welcome to these public User Forums.

What actual version of Acronis are you using here?  Version 26 build 39450 looks to be an OEM version supplied with the new SSD perhaps?

There looks to be two issues being reported in the log, the first being the format / resize error when resizing partition from the source SSD to the destination SSD.  The second being a VSS Snapshot read error which suggests that you are attempting to perform the clone from with an active Windows OS?

Does your PC have two NVMe M.2 SSD slots or are you connecting the second SSD via an external M.2 adapter?

See forum topic: Steve migrate NVMe SSD where I have documented (with images) the process that I have used multiple times for my own laptops using Backup & Recovery.

Thank you very much Steve

It must be an OEM version, a download was included by Crucial with my new SSD

I am indeed using an external M.2 adapter

I will have a proper look into each step you describe as some of it is unfamiliar to me but I should be able to do the backup/restore process from current SSD -> external HDD -> newly installed SSD as you describe

Would you anticipate this solving the above issues including the format / resize error (I don't know what this means!)?

This is my first foray into hardware upgrades apart from RAM so am realising how little I know, thanks so much for your help

Would you anticipate this solving the above issues including the format / resize error (I don't know what this means!)?

What size of drives are involved here?   Acronis is reporting the following sizes for individual partitions on the drives.

3. Copying and merging partitions ( Reboot required )
Hard disk: 1, 2 -> 2 Drive letter: -, - -> - File system: FAT32, None -> FAT32 Volume label:
Size: 260 MB, 260 MB -> 260 MB

4. Copying and merging partitions ( Reboot required )
Hard disk: 1, 2 -> 2 Drive letter: C:, C: -> C: File system: NTFS, None -> NTFS Volume label:
Size: 237.5 GB, 237.5 GB -> 237.5 GB

5. Copying and merging partitions
Hard disk: 1, 2 -> 2 Drive letter: -, - -> - File system: NTFS Volume label:
Size: 0.001 TB, 1.587 TB -> 1.587 TB

The number 5. item looks strange with a size of 0.001 TB when compared to how the earlier partitions are shown.   Those two other partitions look fine, i.e. EFI System partition 260 MB and C: Windows OS partition 237.5 GB both with no resize needed.
