Multiple tib file question.

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I am a noob when it comes to using Acronis True Image Home 2011. I did read the documentation, but still have a question. Here is my situation:

I am using Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium. I currently have an Intel x25 80 GB SSD installed in my Sony Vaio Notebook. I am getting a bigger Intel 160 GB SSD. So I want to use acronis to clone the 80GB onto the new 160. I have created a bootable media on a DVD. I then created a clone on an external hard drive. When I look at the external drive there are 5 files called:
My_partitions1.tib
My_partitions2.tib
My_partitions3.tib
My_partitions4.tib
My_partitions5.tib

This is where my question comes into play. When I install the new 160 GB SSD, I am pretty sure the bootable DVD will come into play and boot the machine up. My question is what do I do from there? It is the multiple tib files that confuse me. I have read somewhere here that people have just one file to restore. I have 5. I am not sure if I did something wrong during the cloning process, or if I pick all the tib files during the restore process. If I do have to pick all of the tib files, is there an option for this once the bootable disk kicks in? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

You did not clone, you did backup. There are many files because (most likely) it was split in 4 gb pieces because the external disk was formatted in FAT32. It will collect them all if you point to the first (or the last?) one when you select the one to restore.

Thanks so much for the reply. I see the option to clone the disk. I will try that. Two more questions, and I think I am all set.

1.) The external drive that is in FAT32 format, should I format it to something else?
2.) When I choose the cloning option this time, I am assuming that you still need to create a Acronis bootable media on the DVD correct? Then install new SSD, power it up, and the notebook boots up from the Acronis bootable media created on the DVD correct?

1) if you are going to go the 'clone' way (clone ssd-80 to external; then clone external to ssd-160 ) it doesn't matter how the external disk is formatted now, it will become clone of the ssd.
2) you need the bootable media anyway.

However, as you already have the image of ssd-80 on the external disk, you may try to insatall ssd-160 and restore the image onto it.

Thanks so much for the help. Looks like a pretty straight forward process. I will post here if I have any more questions. Thanks again....

Check this post to restore to a bigger disk, in particular if you have hidden partitions or OEM partitions on your disk.
