Application service restarting 45 minutes after Acronis backup completes

Thread needs solution

We have an application service crashing and immediately recovering anytime between 20 - 45 minutes after a backup job completes on one of our servers.  The restart causes big issues for our application and we have finally been able to replicate the issue by running manual backups. Without fail, within 20-45 minutes the service will restart.

If we do not run a backup for days the service never crashes, if we run 4 backups we get 4 crashes.

This is a server in a windows server failover cluster and service is clustered.  We have are using a windows agent as opposed to a VM agent per Acronis direction for clustered servers.

Hello Nathan,

Welcome to the forum!

Our agent takes a snapshot of the disks, and once the backup is finished, that snapshot is deleted, which means the agent doesn't have contact with the DB's afterward. I advise you to follow the troubleshooting steps below:

  • Check the event viewer of Windows to identify the error.
  • Reschedule the backup to another time when the machine is not busy.
  • Review the cluster configuration to ensure that it's correctly set up and that all nodes are functioning as expected.
  • Assess the resource allocation on your server, including CPU, memory, and storage. Ensure that the server has sufficient resources to handle both the backup processes and the application workload.

If the issue persists, please raise a ticket with our support team and attach evidential proofs that our agent is causing the crash using this link: https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153 .

Thanks in advance!
