Upgrade or don't upgrade to ACPH 40713
I am at a quandary do I upgrade and re-install active protection and AV? or leave this release well alone until my subscription expires and move onto a backup only product and stay with Microsoft Defender?
My experience the last few releases have been very problematic and unstable/slow for my PC, this is why I am slightly reluctant to upgrade.
What does people in this forum think?

HI Steve,
I will await your testing, I have a few VMs that I can use but unfortunately licence is linked to my PC.

Martyn, unfortunately my experience so far with upgrading from 40338 to 40713 have been disappointing and negative!
The upgrade appeared to go fine but then the program launch was very slow and eventually failed with a message about not being able to communicate with 127.0.0.1 port 999 along with being unable to get Protection status.
Windows Security also could not get protection status from ACPHO.
I did a selective uninstall of the protection features along with a Windows restart but Windows Security still believed that ACPHO was the security provider!!
At one point it crashed with an offer to capture an Acronis System Report and set to Acronis which I did!
Currently, I have now done a full uninstall of ACPHO on that particular Win 11 VM system before trying anything else!

Further update: I have now come to the conclusion that I am giving up on trying to upgrade my Win 11 VM from ACPHO 40338 to 40713 as there are too many issues if Protection is enabled!
All seems OK if going with the basic Backup feature but that was not the point of the upgrade attempt.
I will revert the VM back to its working state with ACPHO 40338.

Hello Steve,
Thank you for the information and for your efforts in testing the product.
I have forwarded the message to the team.
I am updating this post to let you know that there is a knowledge base (KB) article regarding a known issue while updating the agent:
https://kb.acronis.com/content/72855
I suggest that everyone who is facing this issue and wants to update now should contact our support with the logs requested in the KB.
Best regards!

HI Steve,
Thanks for the updates, perhaps I was expecting too much from for this release to be smooth for everyone who updated.
The software has only been available for a day before Acronis release an article informing customers to stay with there current release.
https://kb.acronis.com/content/72855
This is shocking, how can they keep breaking releases?
This failure only strengthen my resolve to give up on a product that I have used every year since 2005 (Acronis True Image 9.0).
The backup functionality and supplied AV is the most important product on my PC to keep it safe. I need a product I can trust and ACPHO no longer is fit for purpose.
I plan to give another backup product my hard earned money, I've been informed Macrium Reflect Home is a stable product so I will give then a try.

Just done a successful upgrade from 40338 to 40729 (released today!) on my Win 11 Hyper-V VM with all Protection turned off / real-time protection & try and decide not installed. A new disk backup is running successfully to my Synology NAS with around 5 mins to go.
Note: I am not in the USA ref the Identity Protection feature restriction.

I successfully upgraded a Win 11 Pro PC to the latest build (full installation except for Try & Decide). Did not notice anything amiss subsequently (relating to ACPHO). However, this morning I was greeted by the Green Screen of Death - not unusual as it is running an Insider build. Now the PC seems to be dead - I suspect the power supply. Need to investigate further and will report back.
Update: User error, u
unplugged HDMI cable and plugged in back in to the wrong HDMI port. Aother seniors' moment,
Ian

Thanks Ian & Steve for the updates.
I will plan to upgrade later this week, not sure if I will enable the AV elements as currently happy with Defender providing my protection.

Have upgraded all three of my systems with ACPHO to 40729, two on Win 11 and one Win 10, with just one using full Cyber Protection features, the other two using Defender.
All has gone well apart from my initial saga with the first Win 11 system for which I had to do an in-place upgrade to the same build of Win 11 to resolve issues, after which all was fine!

Hello Steve and Ian,
Thank you for sharing your personal feedback.
I am glad that everything worked out properly in the end, and you managed to update the product.

There is a new Windows update coming out today Windows 11 Moment 4.
Its firstly being delivered as an optional non-security update on September 26, where you have the following option check "Get the latest updates as soon as available" on Windows Update page. I have this option checked so I expect it the update to be displayed any day soon.
Does anyone know if the new release ACPHO to 40729 will play nice with this latest update? I am hoping Acronis engineers had a test bed where they could test this large Windows 11 release.
Steve, Ian
Can you confirm what OS version you installed on?
The following is my current build (Windows 11 22H2).
C:\Windows\System32>systeminfo | findstr /B /C:"OS Name" /C:"OS Version"
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
OS Version: 10.0.22621 N/A Build 22621

Nothing being offered to me so far today for Win 11 22H2 in the UK.

The Microsoft event on the 21st September mentioned it was being released on the 26th to the public, but it might be being offered regionally, like you I am in the UK so it might take a week or more before it shows up.

I got the update today. It's KB5030310. The update went fine and ACPHO build 40739 seems to run with no problems.

Do you have ACPHO AV protection enabled? or using another AV provider? are your backups working ok? as there seem to be a few others reporting backup failures with the most recent release.
The reason I ask about ACPHO AV, back in March there were a few releases that got pulled. I found having AV enabled crippled my machine so badly the only option open was to disable the functionality and use Defender.

The update was installed on my Windows 11 Pro 23 Sept 2023 (I am located east coast Australia). I have had on Green Screen of Woe since doing so, but that is not uncommon when running Insider builds of Windows.
I have a full installation (other than Try & Decide a program that I do see the point of).

Martyn,
I don't have ACPHO protection installed at all. I only installed the base product. I can't tell you about the backups because I don't run ant ACPHO backups from that machine.

I decided to upgrade, but failed with the following error message
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Product: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office
Build: 40729
Date: 29/09/2023
Time: 10:22:00
More info: Acronis Knowledge Base
Error details: An installation for Intel(R) Computing Improvement Program is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?
If you still need assistance, contact our support team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is ACPHO build 40729 dependents on another product?
This product is part of Intel® Driver & Support Assistant but you don't have to install it for the Intel support assistant to work and keep your drivers up to date.
I did re-install this Intel® Computing Improvement Program so as to see if ACPHO build 40729 installs which it does.
I will however be regressing to ACPHO build 40338 backups where I don't have Intel® Computing Improvement Program installed.
Why does ACRONIS install fail when this isn't installed? What purpose does Acronis have with this data collection utility when it's not owned by them?

I've now upgraded to ACPHO v40724, and there is no longer the issue with slowdowns that was plagued when ACPHO AV was enabled. Reboot is only slightly slower with AV not installed.
Steps to upgrade.
29/08_11:19 - v40724 - Upgraded without Acronis AV - no issues apart from the installer firstly failed (see above)
29/09_11:49 - v40724 - Installed Acronis AV elements
29/08_11:59 - v40724 - Backup after installing Acronis AV
29/08_12:06 - v40724 - Reboot PC after Acronis AV installation
Will run with this build for a few days and try a back to see if I can recover a restore point, as some users exhibited issues with backups.

After evaluating ACPHO v40724 with AV enabled I wanted to test regressing back to a previous restore point, I've done this multiple times on previous versions so though it would be smooth process.
I rebooted my PC pressed F11 and entered Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, I selected a different backup point that would contain build v40724, I then at the next step wanted to select my drive to restore to but it was greyed out. I tried a restore point for v40338 but this also showed my disks greyed out.
For build v40338 I did previously create a bootable UEFI USB disk and proceed to boot into Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. This time the disks were not greyed out.
It looks like with ACPHO v40724 installed and using its Acronis Startup Recovery Manager I cannot restore any backups.
My only option is to re-boot up with my UEFI USB of Acronis Startup Recovery Manager and try restoring to ACPHO v40338 and forget ever upgrading.... this is yet to be tested hopefully it doesn't fail.
I tried to add the images but keep getting an error.
For me this is another nail in the coffin for renewing Acronis yearly subscription.

Martyn, I think there is a little confusion arising here.
Acronis Startup Recovery Manager = Linux in a temporary environment on the local disk drive and has multiple limitations for detecting newer drives such as NVMe M.2 SSD's, RAID drives and encryption using BitLocker.
I suspect that your USB boot media was created using WinPE / WinRE which does not suffer these Linux limitations and has nothing to do with either build 40338 or 40729.
Not sure where you have got 40724 from??
- Log in to post comments

Correct build number 40729, no idea why I pasted the other value into my updates.
Understand where you’re coming from, but why would it suddenly not work no hardware has changed. I've been using that method for 2 years on my current PC with no problems (non encrypted, non raid, NVMe M.2 drive).
I've also used this method of recovery for every other build that's been released for a good many years as it’s a quick restore process. I just press F11 then pick a restore point, 6 minutes later my PC restored to an earlier backup point.
I created the other media as a backup in case my PC get corrupted, and I couldn’t boot into the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. It’s not been needed until today.
If it's that flaky why does Acronis offer it to consumers?

F11 = ASRM = Linux.
KB 46250: Acronis Linux-based Bootable Media: Troubleshooting USB HID Devices Detection Issues
KB 45330: Acronis Bootable Media Does Not Detect HDD, RAID or NIC
KB 45331: Acronis Bootable Media(Linux-based): Troubleshooting NIC Detection
The problem here is in the BusyBox Linux distribution that Acronis uses and which gets updated with new builds / versions and may get new support for devices or lose support for other devices as seems to be the case for you.
I stopped using ASRM many years ago when it conflicted with Dell BIOS boot systems!
What you can do is to use an alternative approach to have a boot option for WinPE rescue media shown in your Windows Boot Manager. This is how Macrium work for their boot media!
If you are interested in this alternative approach see my YouTube video here.

HI Steve,
thanks for the info, not too sure about hardware support as its only 2-year-old hardware, but knowing ASRM recovery apprach can have problems is good to know.
I just read up on Macrium approach so might give it a go, I've edited my boot manager in the past so know what to do. But thanks for the offer if I needed help. Macrium as backup software does interest me, I am still not a fan on the extra bloatware ACPHO bundles.
One comment I made above about my update that firstly failed due Intel(R) Computing Improvement Program being disabled worries me, What interest does ACPHO have in this Intel data collection utility?

This looks like a Windows issue where an installation requires exclusive access to proceed rather than an issue with the actual Acronis upgrade. This has been a much more prevalent issue in the past and was usually cleared by doing a restart of Windows to complete a pending install.

I don't believe there is an issue with Intel® Driver & Support Assistant. I've had that option disabled since the PC was built. The error message Acronis reported was just a HTML page it didn't give an option to updo anything?
To proceed with the installation of Acronis I had to change the settings in Intel® Driver & Support Assistant to enable Intel(R) Computing Improvement Program and then re-run the installer.

Hello Martyn!
The program should not block or disable the Intel(R) Computing Improvement Program.
If you have any concrete evidence of this occurring, I suggest you raise a ticket with our support team so that we can investigate and confirm the issue. However, from what I can see, the agent should not interfere with it.
Best regards!

HI Jose,
Not too bothered about Intel(R) Computing Improvement Program, but it was Acronis who sent the error message.
Error details: An installation for Intel(R) Computing Improvement Program is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?
Acronis didn't block the Intel program but produced the above error to proceed with install I had to enable the intel(R) Computing Improvement Program... was curious why Acronis cared about this product.
The issue I woudl like to know more is why ASRM no longer works on a two-year-old system after upgrading. I will raise a support ticket, if it is due to hardware support for ASRM then they shoudl put a comment on the product description certain hardware is not supported.
Thanks

Hi Jose,
The support request 06112957 was created on 10th October for the ASRM issue as reported earlier. I've still not received an email with FTP details so I can upload Acronis System Report.
Thanks
