How to Assign Drive Letter to Folders and Files Backup When Doing Restore?

Thread needs solution

Using Acronis True Image 2020. One of my hard drives, a non-system hard drive, is encrypted. Therefore, Acronis forces me to backup using Folders and Files with the encrypted hard drive.

Recently the encrypted hard drive failed. No problem as I have a recent Acronis True Image backup. I get a new hard drive, same capacity as the failed drive and replace the failed drive in my Windows 10 desktop.

Thinking the restore was “no big deal” and I’d have the drive up and running in no time. Turns out, not true.

Encrypt the new hard drive. Then, I discover the only way to access the backup files, since the backup is Folder and Files, is to double click on the .tib file. Wait a LONG time for anything to appear. Finally, a new window opens. Must double click on the new item to actually open the backup. Unfortunately, folders and files are shown, but I must manually copy the items onto the new hard drive. I can’t copy the folders and files using Robocopy since the backup isn’t giving me a drive letter.

My question is there a way to assign a drive letter to the backup of folders and files when doing a restore?

Or, is there a better way to restore folder and files backup when restoring to an encrypted hard drive (the encrypted hard drive is open and accessible when I am doing the restore).

Assuming that you have ATI 2020 on the same PC with the encrypted but unlocked data drive, then you should be able to do the recovery from with the Acronis application GUI by opening the Recovery panel tab.

See KB 63240: Acronis True Image 2020: how to restore files from a backup (Windows) - which has information on the different methods that can be used.
