What do I get?

Thread needs solution

What do I get when I buy the product to backup my computer?  Do I download an app to create a bootable CD/DVD? A bootable flash drive?

Hello!

Please refer to the following webpage:

https://www.acronis.com/en-us/homecomputing/thanks/home-office/

You can download and try the product. Once you decide to purchase the product, you will receive a serial number to activate it.

Regarding the bootable media, you can download it by following this KB: https://kb.acronis.com/content/4828. (I would advise you to use a flash drive instead of a CD/DVD.)

Best regards.

Bryan, the answer to your question is 'it depends!'

If you buy a boxed copy of an application then you should normally get a shrink wrapped glossy box with a CD or DVD inside and a simple, quick start type guide pointing you to online documentation.  The CD or DVD is almost guaranteed to be of an older version of the application than is available for download but should work as recovery media provided that your computer hardware is supported by the Linux based media used.

Lots of backup applications come as download links these days, i.e. you buy a license online and are sent a download link for the application installer.  You install the application (as Administrator) then create any bootable rescue / recovery media directly from within the application to your choice of media, i.e. flash drive, DVD etc.

The advantage of downloading the application installer over a boxed copy is that you should get the most recent version with all current updates included.

Thank you both.

I see that PCWorld sells a perpetual license for $45.  Is that a legitimate copy of Acronis?

Oh, When I go to accounts, there is nothing that provides a list of my posts to make it easier to find my questions.  Please consider adding such an option.

And while waiting for review and approval for posting, it would be nice to be able to see my posts so as to correct any typos.

If you buy from a reputable reseller then it should be fully legitimate.  You should be looking at True Image 2018, 2019, 2020 or 2021 and not earlier versions.  ACPHO is not sold with a perpetual license!

Hello!

We no longer sell perpetual licenses since 2021. The new products operate on a subscription basis.

PC World is, in fact, a reseller, and while we have hundreds of resellers, we cannot provide specific details about each reseller's offerings, as only they have that information. They are likely selling you a 1-year subscription. I would advise you to contact them for more details. Alternatively, you can purchase the product directly from our website at https://www.acronis.com/en-us/products/true-image/.

Regards.
