Acronis brings brand new laptop to its knees !

Thread needs solution

Brand new HP Pavilion Laptop 15z-eh300. Windows 11.  We will call this "B".  Acronis 2018, license transferred from "A".

All backup from A were stored on a Synology NAS.  Machine B can "Map Network Drive" to NAS, but "Scan Network" does not see NAS(?).  Using File Explorer, I go to Z: (the NAS where the backups are stored), walk down the directories until I find the FULL BACKUP for A.  Double click.  Walk down the folders to where the files I want restored are, select and restore.

Things start out well, but within 5 minutes, slow to a crawl !  Eventually, B is completely locked !  Using PERFMON /RES, before it locks up, very little CPU is being consumed, lots of Free Memory, but the NETWORK IS BEING BEAT TO DEATH !

Am I doing something wrong ?

Jack, you are not doing anything wrong in principle .. BUT .. doing any file / folder restore over a network will result in a lot of network activity, especially if you have any deeply nested folder or file structures and using Explorer.

The performance should be better if using the Recovery panel of ATI 2018 after adding the NAS backup chain to the Acronis GUI by using the 'Add existing backup' option.

See KB 60918: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, Acronis True Image: adding a previously created backup to the backups list

The alternative and probably faster method would be to copy the Full backup to a USB drive and connect it directly to the new HP laptop, cutting out the network altogether - even this method may be slow if dealing with a large backup image and nested folders...
