Why Is Backup Creating an Image?
Acronis WD (Western Digital) version
Why is Acronis creating an image in response to my request to create a backup?
It is my (possibly incorrect) understanding that an image is not a straight file backup where files can be read directly from the backup. Is that correct?
I thought cloning requires an image and files on an image are not readily readable individually as they are on a typical standard backup.

Don't know if it is so in WD edition, but in standard TrueImage you can also restore individual files from a disk/partition backup.

Hi.
I cloned for backup purposes. At least I wanted to, and I think I did. The resulting file, seemingly contradictory to what I expected from your explanation, is a TIB file. Did I miss something?

If you used the clone function, you cannot get a TIB file. If you use the image (disk an partition) backup function (that many users call cloning), you get a TIB file. Might look like semantics, but there is a major difference in the application.
