tib.sys Driver Incompatible with Win 11 Memory Integrity Service

Thread needs solution

I have a relatively new Win 11 PC with Intel processor. The OS is telling me that the ACPHO driver named tib.sys is incompatible with the Memory Integrity feature (Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Device security > Core isolation), and Memory Integrity cannot be activated because of this incompatibility.

The tib.sys driver is named "Acronis TIB Explorer", version 1.0.0.10011.

This discussion topic is first of all meant to inform Acronis of this problem created by the tib.sys driver.

Secondly, I would like to know if this driver can be deactivated without effecting the safe operation of ACPHO.

This is a known limitation of ACPHO and ATI. See discussion Incompatible Driver(s): tib.sys?. There are several other thread devoted to the problem.

It is clear that the problem is not going to be fixed in ACPHO/ATI until the code rebuild for ACPH is completed - seems to be way behind schedule.

Dear Bill McMillan,
As Ian correctly said in the future product versions we plan to solve it.

Good to hear Daria. In the meantime, since I do not use the "Try N' Decide" feature, I implemented Steve Smith's  tib.~sys solution found in the "Incompatible Driver(s): tib.sys" discussion topic mentioned above by Ian. Now, the Memory Integrity feature is working again.

These guys Ian and Steve do a lot to keep ACPHO's "wheels on the tracks".

Bill, thanks for the kind words; I am sure that Steve, appreciates the feedback as do I.

Ian

My computer running Windows 11 has the same incompatibility message as Bill noted, but I can't find the solution he referenced.  Could it please be restated so that I can resolve the problem?

Thank you.

This is a known issue and only resolved by Acronis in build 40107 or later of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office which now offers a Custom Install option where users can now elect not to install the 'Try&Decide tool' feature (which brings the tib.sys driver to Windows).

For users of older versions of Acronis, see forum topic: Incompatible Driver(s): tib.sys? | Acronis Forum for information on how to circumvent the issue by renaming tib.sys to such as tib.~sys or by removing the associated registry entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tib

Note: you may need to do a Safe mode start of Windows to action the above options.

The existence of tib.sys lead to a BSOD upon upgrading to Windows 11.

After renaming tib.sys I could successfully repeat the upgrade, and the Memory Integrity feature was enabled.

But since then mounting a .tibx file fails. The context menu options "Mount" and "Validate" are available, but after selecting each of them nothing happens.

Doing the same using an admin account leads to an error message "Assign a drive letter to the ... partition failed."

At least running a backup job still works.

Is there a solution to overcome this malfunction?

I certainly will not re-rename tib.sys.

Thank you in advance

Andre, welcome to these public User Forums.

TIB.SYS is not used for Mounting, Validating or opening backup archive images in Explorer.

It is used only by the Try & Decide feature, so renaming that tib.sys file should not affect those functions.

I have ATI 2021 installed on my own Windows 11 system with Core Isolation enabled and with tib.sys renamed and the Windows shell integration to give Mount etc is working fine.

I would suggest that you do the following:

First, turn off Core Isolation and restart the computer.

Next, perform a Repair install of ATI 2021 to ensure that Acronis Windows shell integration is repaired.

Check that the Mount feature is working again.

Rename tib.sys to tib.~sys then restart the computer.

Re-enable Core Isolation.

Has this incompatibility been fixed in any of the 2023 products?

Not to our knowledge at this time.  The main 'fix' is to perform a Custom Install and deselect the option for 'Try & Decide' which installs the tib.sys kernel driver.

Steve Smith:  How do you do custom install of TI 2021?  I renamed tib.sys, but that did not seem to work, I uninstalled 2021.  On reinstalling I did not see the ability to custom install and not install "Try N' Decide".

thanks

Robert, if you have the perpetual license to the 2021 product then you do not have the ability to not install the TnD feature. If you have the subscription with the latest ACPHO, then you can do so.
