Specifying volume location

Thread needs solution

I have recently installed ATI Home. I use an external HD (Elements 465Gb) as a backup, which is my H drive. Simply wish to create partition image for my single main HD, which is partitioned into C, D and E drives. Run Windows XP.
The issue is that I always get a message: "Error writing the file. Click Browse to specify volume location". Do I browse to highlight the H drive (the backup location)?

Also get in the log a longer message which I do not understand:
"Error writing the file 0x40003. Function "WriteFileNoCache" Tag 0x7CEB2CDC9FB12189 .. because of I/O device error (OxFFFO).
Any suggestions --- I need the peace of mind that the files on the H drive are a full backup in case of my main HD failure.

Thanks

What version and build of TI are you using?

Do you get the same error if you boot to the TI CD and try to create the backup?

Have you validated the backups on the external drive? Have you started them through the restore wizard to see what's included in them (which partitions)?

I'm getting a similar message: "Specify the location of the volume 1" when my scheduled backups run.

What does it mean and how is it resolved?

tks

Hello Geoff,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

Please download Acronis driver update and extract it. Install the extracted file (with disabled logging). Reboot the machine and see if the issue remains. This file can be applied to Acronis True Image Home 2009.

kweimer,

Could you please attach the entire log file of the failed operation to your next post?

Thank you.

I have the same problem and was unable to download the driver update. Can you be specific about how this is done? What is extracted file and how does one disable the logging?

Thanks.

Hello Claudia,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

If you use an external hard drive to place the archive to, please try reducing the HDD writing speed to 80% or less (Tools -> Options -> Backup options -> HDD writing speed).
If this doesn’t help, download SnapAPI update (the file can be applied to Acronis True Image 11 Home), unpack the archive and run the SnapAPISetup.msi file. Go through the wizard screens (you will receive a choice, select the installation with the disabled logging option) and hit Proceed to install the update. You will need to reboot the machine to finish the installation.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.
