64 character activation code asked for but I only have a 25 character code.
Question.
Aconis TrueImage Home Build 7160 is asking for a 64 character activation code but I only have a 25 character activation code. What do I need to do to activate my free upgrade please?
Background.
I was running Acronis TrueImage Home 2010 (build 4942 I think) under Windows XP Home SP 3 which I had paid for. I recently converted to using Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP 1 for which I need build 7160. I downloaded the free update from Acronis but must have done something wrong when installing.
I was given the choice of entering a serial key or installing as a trial version. I entered my 25 character licence key (is this the same as the serial key??) - both with and without the dashes between the 5 groups of 5 characters). This was rejected. So I installed as a trial version instead. I entered my name, email and country as requested. I chose a typical setup and the installation started.
The green installation line moved from left to right, got half way along, hesitated but got a bit further along and then, to my surprise, it moved all the way back to the left and disappeared. A message "Installion incomplete. The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again." I tried installing the update as a trial version again and got the same result.
So, I uninstalled Acronis TrueImage Home 2010 and ran the update installing as a trial version - which worked. I was asked for a 64 character activation code but I only have a 25 character code. All my details are registered with Acronis on my online account. What do I need to do to activate my free upgrade please?

Hello David and MudCrab,
Thank you for posting and thank you very much for helping MudCrab.
David, let me provide you with additional assistance please.
I can see that you have a copy of Acronis True Image 10 Home and Acronis True Image 2009 Home. You probably installed a trial version of Acronis True Image 2010 Home. I would recommend to uninstall it from Windows add/remove programs and then install Acronis True Image 10 Home. You can download it from your Acronis web-account. Please check this KB article for additional information.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Anton,
TI 10 should not be installed in Windows 7 (it doesn't support it).

David,
You would need either TI 2010 or TI 2011 to install in Windows 7. In your case, it sounds like you would need to purchase it first since your latest version appears to be TI 2009.

Hello Mudcrab and Anton.
As you say Mudcrab, I am running Windows 7. TI2010 build 7160 runs under W7 but not earlier builds - and I have an earlier build (4942). My online Acronis account seems to show that I started with TI2009 and then I upgraded to TI2010. When I click on the TI2010 entry in my account, it shows the latest build as 4942 (which works under XP but not W7). When I click on upgrade, it shows TI2011 as an option and not TI2010 build 7120.
So, it loks like, as Mudcrab says, I will need to pay for an upgrade. If you, Anton, can confirm this I'd be grateful. If I am entitled to a free upgrade to TI2010 build 7160 to run under W7, I need an alternative method of getting the update - because your suggestion, Anton, doesn't apply.
Thanks for any help you can give. And thanks again Mudcrab.
Regards.
David.

There never was a build of TI2010 with number 4942., it started from 5000-something. 4942 is a TrueImage 10 , (year 2007), that doesn't work with W7. You have not an earlier build but a different version.

Hello all,
Thank you for your comments.
MudCrab, you are absolutely correct, ATIH 10 is not supported by Windows 7. dev-anon, thank you very much for helping out.
David, the version you refer to in your Acronis web-account is Acronis True Image 10 Home build 4942.
Acronis True Image 2010 Home's latest build is 7160. You can purchase Acronis True Image 2011 Home as an upgrade for half the price.
If you need additional help please let me know.
Thank you.
