Acronis True Image Home version 10.0 (build 4,942) stopped recognizing back-up locations
Hi Everyone,
For several years I have used TI 10 (4942) , on my Win XP Pro SP3 computer without a problem. Now when I attempt to perform a disk back up , I found that TI 10 no longer can "see" the Acronis_backup_place.cfg file in my back up partition. So I had to create a back up file name. And if I try a new full back up, TI 10 wants to "write over" the older disk back up. It won't "see" my J drive .
Also when I back up, I find , In Computer Management_Event Viewer_ Application Errors many errors saying the Acronis test program failed. But my TI 10 log shows no problems.
Any ideas on why TI 10 stopped recognizing the "Acronis_backup_place.cfg file" in my J partition .
Thanks.

Your descriipton is somewhat confusing but as best I understand your situation, I offer this:
ATI 10 was possibly the most solid and reliable version Acronis ever made and, despite its age, I still use it on several mchines. If it worked and suddenly went woncky, it's probably something botched up in the windows registry regarding some part of ATI or a corrupted prog file. A fix might be as simple as deleting the backup locations (and removing the cfg files in the backup locations if deleting the locations doesn't do that) and then recreating the backup locations.
If that's doesn't help, I'd try a reinstall. I don't recall if ATI 10 (as opposed to ati2010) had a repair feature, but you'll find out when you try to install. If not, then I' try an install. you might have to uninstall first. Generally, it's advisable to Make a backup and save it somewhere safe before you start changing things. that way you can always go back.
