My new OS build and backup strategy
Hi, Guys,
Im currently planning to rebuild my OS, starting from scratch. What i am planning on doing is having Windows 7 x64 on the C: drive, and documents, games, etc. on a different SSD drive, which will be D: . I normally back up to a USB drive, using the rescue disk (obviously this is a seperate back up strategy from my daily routines).
My question is, for my entire system images, can i include BOTH drives into ONE back up? I would like to back up C: and D: into one image, and be able to restore to the correct drives also? I guess i am asking if Acronis can treat both drives as one.
Thank you for your help.

Cant Acronis do this automatically? Doing it this way will, I would have to run two back ups and two restores.

You can recover multiple partitions to one disk in one operation but cannot target multiple disks.

Ok, no problem. So the best way would be to backup my C to one image, then immediately back up the D drive? Then when it comes to the restore, do those seperately also?
Both will need to be done, because i intend to install programs on the D drive.

Yes. In fact, Win would prob get very confused in you didn't restore both. But there should be no prob if you do restore both. If you aren't restoring to a diff size disk, then for the system drive, I'd restore all partitions, mbr and disk signature, then restore the other drive before trying to boot up with the system drive. If restoring the system drive to a bigger/smaller dirve, then you should check Grover's stuff inthe stickies or the User Guide:

It's probably best to do this in stages anyway to ensure that the right target drives are selected.
