Restoring from True Image Rescue Disk

Thread needs solution

I have had Acronis true image Version 9.1 (build 3,718) for some time and used it to create Backups. The other day, I had need to use it to restore an immage and am having problems, can anyone help?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-S4VP/B laptop running XP (one 2.5in 60g hard drive). This drive is full to bursting and I bought a Seagate ST9320423AS 320g drive as an upgrade. I backed up my 60g drive on to an external USB drive and fitted the new Seagate. I booted the machine from the Agronis rescue CD and restored the immage. However, whilst I can get the machine to boot, it always reports that it can not start XP.

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks Ray

What is the exact error message?

Was the XP partition restored as Active?

Have you checked that the boot.ini file is referencing the correct partition?

Was the image restored as an Entire Disk Image (check the Disk # checkbox)? Note that this would restore the partition at the old size, but if it boots properly it may help with troubleshooting.

Have you checked that the new drive is properly configured as the default booting drive in the BIOS?

Thank you for coming back to me

I need to strip my computer down, install the New diask, re-assemble and boot in order to get you the ecact message. I will do that but from memory, it was something like "unable to find Windows xxxxxx, ini file".

Don't know how to do that.

Yep, the image is a full backup of all the Partitions. and I ticked of the partitions I wanted tp restore. I will run through the proccess again and look for an option to restore as an entire Disk.

I am reasonably sure that it is but I will try your suggestions and get back with some further information if that is OK.

once more, thank you for your help.
