Can't restore C: Drive ?

Thread needs solution

I recently had to reformat my C ( boot ) drive. I've got several discrete backups of the C partition on an external hard drive.

I naturally assumed that I'd be able to restore one of these backups to my C partition and be back up and running in no time.

Wrong!

Acronis True Image 2011 won't restore these backups to my C partition. It insists that I restore elsewhere ( I can evidently choose any location other than the original C drive partition. )

What's with that? What possible use is a backup image of your boot and OS partition if your backup software won't allow you to recover to that boot partition so that you can recover the functionality of your computer.

I had to reinstall my OS (Win7 Home Premium) from scratch, loosing all of the programs etc. that had been on my C drive.

If I don't get a solution for this situation I'll have to conclude that purchasing Acronis True Image is/was a waste of hard earned cash and will have to buy something else, or go back to using Norton Ghost.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Thank you.

First of all, ignore drive letters - they might not be the same when you are trying to restore. Go by Volume labels or drive model numbers, whatever can identify the correct harddrive for you as the target.

So do you have more than one Harddrive?
