E00040014 Access to the file is denied

Thread needs solution

Hi There,

I've been using Acronis 10 True Image Home (build 4.871) under Vista Business SP2 to make monthly full (and daily incremental) full backups of the disk. For the last couple of weeks I've now not been able to make a full back up as I keep getting the error message

E00040014 Access to the file is denied

As far as I know I've made no change to user rights etc., so would be grateful for any guidance on how to solve this as at the moment I've had to resort to the Windows Vista backup tool!

Many thanks

Hello Neil,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
Without additional information I can’t be certain of the issue.
Nevertheless, I noticed you are not using the latest build.  You may want to update the build, I am not certain if the issue is addressed in the new build at this point, however it is generally a good idea to be up to date.
Please update the program to build #4942 and see if the issue remains. You can learn more on how to download the latest build here.
If the issue still persists, please provide us with the below information:
Could you please clarify where backup file is placed (whether it's on internal, external, or network hard drive)? Also please provide us with the log file of the failed operation:
- Start Acronis True Image;
- Select Tools -> Show log;
- Choose the log entry which contains errors;
- Click on the diskette icon, choose the location (folder) and save there;
- Attach the file to your next post.
We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.

Oleg,

I am also experiencing this issue, but should not be. It appears to be related to Network shares, Mapped drives, and external disks. I notice Acronis is now selling the plus pack. Previous versions allowed backups to network shares. True Image 11 doesn’t even see Windows 7 libraries for crying out loud. I held out hopes, for the 3rd time the software would work out of the box Again, I have been disappointed. I’ll stick to the built in backup of Windows 7, and install CDs. At least Windows backup recognizes Libraries. I am very disappointed and have requested a refund. I hope Acronis accepts constructive criticism, and will use it to improve the product.

So can ANYONE actually get this software to work as advertised?!?!?!?
ATI DOES NOT WORK for me to back up to a network share. PERIOD.
Why does it even bother allowing me to select a network share if all I get when backing up is
"Access to the file is denied"
?????????

I had this very problem - trying to create a full backup on a NAS shared folder, either via a mapped drive or via the UNC path. In my case, I found a solution. This may work for you too, I hope!

- Put a copy of any existing .tib file on the remote location. In the Acronis wizard, select this file as the backup destination, instead of typing the name of a file that doesn't already exist. It will ask you if you want to overwrite the file, and say "yes". After that, go through the rest of the wizard as normal and proceed with the backup. When I did this, my full backup completed correctly, and I got no "Access to the file is denied" error.

Seems like it just has trouble creating the file if it doesn't already exist!
