Backups - Number of Copies?
I am using WinXP and am trying to locate the best backup software to use. I mainly backup all my folders/files to an External Harddrive on a manual basis.. I currently use Acronis TrueImage Backupv10 - but it appears to have the inability to let you define a backup procedure (everything you want to backup) and set it to maintain a certain number of backup. For instance, I would like to retain the 3 most recent backup.
In TrueImagev10, I have to modify the backup procedure each time I run it and rename the backup file to create a new one or it will overwrite the last one. Then to maintain a certain number of backups, I have to go to the External Harddrive and manually delete the oldest one.
Does TIv11 allow you to set the number of backups to retain, and then automatically deletes the oldest one on backup to maintain the desired number of backups?
Thanks for any insights

The task must be defined in the beginning as to the type backups you want to create and retain. Editing tasks is discouraged as editing usually causes unintended results.
Different options available depending upon whether you want full only or full+diff or full+inc.

Sorry for the confusion, I am currently using TI 2010. Could I purchase TI 2011 and just install it over 2010? Thanks

If you upgrade to 2011, you should uninstall 2010, reboot and install 2011. In-place upgrades are supposed to work, but there are issues in reality.

gumboman,
TrueImage excels are as a program to do disk backs and disk restore. In the event, you lose a hard drive, etc, then the restoration of a full disk backup is usually a quick and easy recovery without the user needing to reinstall Windows.
If you are only using TrueImage to backup files and folders, I would recommend that you consider making it an all purpose backup.
