Corrupt hal.dll / boot.ini

Thread needs solution

I recently tried to take a backup of a Dell D430 u7700 Laptop running XP SP3 with a core 2 duo cpu and 2Gb RAM with Acronis v11 OEM.
When taking the image all seemed fine and went smoothly until a re-boot after imaging. Upon re-boot an error came up saying missing hal.dll, this consequently stopped the laptop booting.
I tried to re-deploy the image but the problem still persisted.
After some investigation I found it was a problem with the boot.ini, the main XP system partition had been moved down the boot order and another spare partition had been moved up. This was preventing the laptop from booting.
Why/how did the acronis software manage to do this?
Any help would be greatley appreciated.

Hello Audio,

Thank you for using  Acronis Products

I would recommend you repair MBR in order to make your system bootable. Please repair the MBR (Master Boot Record) of the hard disk using the following way. Download special Acronis utility from http://download.acronis.com/support/mbrautowrite_en.exe. Use it to create a floppy and boot the machine from the floppy.

If you prefer to a fix MBR using a CD, then please download special Acronis utility from http://download.acronis.com/support/mbrautowrite_en.iso. Use it to create a CD and boot the machine from the CD.

The MBR will be rewritten once you boot the computer from the created media and confirm that you want to fix the MBR.

Let us know if the issue persists.
