TI 2011 & Outlook 2010 backup questions
It may be overkill, in that I run TI to backup my boot drive, to also run an email backup for MS Outlook 2010 (POP3 account). The main reason for me is the option to restore Outlook to another system and to cover the hole that I may do something really bad with Outlook and really mess it up.
My OS is Win7 Ultimate x64 with MS office 2010, POP3 account.
Questions: (please answer with the detail instructions for dummies :))
Is it correct to assume that if I have MS Outlook 2010 installed then there are no "Windows Contacts"? To my knowledge I do all of my email functions totally within Outlook.
When I elect to backup MS Outlook 2010 with TI 2011 and leave all of the boxes checked after selecting Outlook the backup will totally backup Outlook? BTW this is what I did.
The backup has been running for what seems like a long time (at least 30 minutes) and the TI window has stated for several minutes (at least 10) that the time remaining is 1 minute. Has something gone wrong? What should I do? BTW I've been creating this post and it has now been more than 30 minutes with the "1 minute remaining" displayed.
If I use the backup to restore to my existing system or a new build are there any special steps I need to perform? When I searched the Acronis forum & KB I saw some articles that stated if I'm restoring to an system that had Outlook already installed (let's say that Outlook was working but I accidentally deleted a bunch of messages) - it stated that I first needed to remove the Outlook files (otherwise I'd end up with duplicates in Outlook) but it did not state which files. Any help here?
Along the same lines in an Acronis KB article (http://kb.acronis.com/content/12549) stated that if I was restoring to a new OS build and Outlook was installed it stated that I must first start outlook, close Outlook and then restore. I'm confused as to why it is necessary to first start Outlook, does not this require that I then setup Outlook?
In the same article it states "If you want to transfer your e-mails to a different e-mail client (e.g. move from Microsoft Outlook 2007 to Microsoft Outlook 2010), it is recommended to use the native Export/Import function of your e-mail program: please see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 287070." Once in the past I attempted to use the native Export/Import and ended up with a total mess. Also in my case most likely I've be moving to the same version of Outlook. If different version of Office are involved I've always first installed the old version and then installed the new version.

Thanks Pat,
a) rely on your disk and partition backup to get your outlook files back,
I've done this in the past and it work, I do other backups in an attempt to cover more bases. I don't like it when Mr. Murphy decides to help.
b) I use a POP account, sorry I did not make this clear.
c) If you use Outlook with POP3 servers or IMAP servers, tell Outlook to do the send and receive to a personal folders file (again a PST file). Store this PST file anywhere you want and back it up using a regular file backup
I'm using Outlook 2010 and just backing up the PST file does NOT backup everything in Outlook, example accounts, rules (I have about 150 rules) and several other key items.
Does TI backup everything?
d) You can use some other backup software to backup email. Try Genie Timeline Free. It backups Outlook settings and storage folders automatically at the block level.
Tks - I'll give Genie Timeline a try.
