ATI Home 2011 Plus Pack Build 6857 - Stalls at Main Screen
Recently did a program update and now I can't do any backups! When I go to the Main Page I get a "loading" message that keeps rotating. If I try to select any backup functions the program stops dead. No matter what I try I can't perform a backup. I uninstalled and re-installed and still no backup capability.
Some of the Tools appear to be functioning. What's happening here?
Running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit Service Pack 1 with 2G RAM. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.10 GHz

Pat,
I did everything you suggested twice with no change in the problem. Both times when I used the cleanup tool I ended up with boot problems. I had to do a Restore to a previous time the second time to get the computer up and running. Any other thoughts?

Was is an update or an upgrade?
Did you let ATI run for a while when it starts? It looks like on some systems it can take a very long time.
Is there any change when you plug/unplug peripherals on the network like printers, NAS, other computers and external disks?

Pat,
When I leave it for a while it just goes into a "Not Responding" mode. Nothing seems to budge it. I tried turning off my Bit Defender Anti Virus program, but that didn't help. Very strange in that it has worked perfectly since I installed it. This just happened recently. The only change I made was to install a 2TB SATA drive for backups. This replaced the 500GB IDE drive that I was using. I've had to use my secondary backup program, Avanquest Perfect Image 12, which has no problems with my system.

Is your 2TB SATA drive showing as a basic disk in the disk management console, or as a dynamic disk?

Pat,
Just as my other hard disk it's shown as a "Local Disk". I installed it using Acronis Disk Director. I have never converted it to a dynamic disk.

Donald,
The only things I can think of are:
- a problem with low level drivers: that should be fixed with uninstalling, running the cleanup utility, reinstalling,
- a problem with network (in particular with Win7), like some users had with Epson printers, etc: if you turn on/off other network devices and this doesn't change, this is not it,
- a problem with disk detection: some users report having problems when the backup disk is internal. Open your computer, disconnect the backup disk (there is no risk is you disconnect the wrong disk, it will simply not boot- when you open a computer, disconnect the power and always try to keep a hand on the chassis to avoid static electricity discharges from you to the computer). Restart the computer and restart ATI. If ATI doesn't show the problem any longer, try to set another destination (backup a couple of files on a USB disk for example). If everything works, we know it is a disk problem. If the problem is still there, put your disk back in. Try to do a backup to the same destination using the recovery CD; if this works, we don't have an issue with the backup disk. We have an issue with ATI in Windows only.
- some other software conflict: using msconfig, disable any startup item, non-Microsoft service except the Acronis services. Reboot and retry. If the issue is still there, I don't have any other option. If not, enable first the services (half of them) until you know where the conflict is.

Actually, check that the Acronis services are started in services.msc...
Also make sure that the following Microsoft services are set to automatic: COM + Application, Volume Shadow Copy, Distribution Transaction Coordinator
