'FEATURE_ABR_VIRTUAL_AGENT_ESX'

Thread needs solution

Hi there,
I'm using ABR AMS 11 on Win Server 2003
ESXi Agent is for Windows is deployed on VMCenter server. I'm trying to backup virtual machine "SAP-v" residing on an ESX cluster. I've assigned ABR11 licences to all nodes in the cluster, including the one hosting SAP-v machine.
However, when I try to run the backup plan I get this:

Any Ideas ?

Thanks

Hi Peter

Please could you confirm that you currently have ABR11 Virtual Edition keys installed and assigned to the ESXi Agent.

If you could provide a screenshot of the agents license assignments that would be good.

You can do this by doing the following steps:
- Connect to your management server
- Expanding ‘Machines with agents’, then select ‘All machines with agents’
- Right click on the machine with the ESXi Windows agent installed and select ‘Change license’
- Provide a screenshot of the ‘Licenses’ screen that is displayed.

Hi Datastor,
here's the screenshot
The VMCENTER01-s is the VMCENTER machine with Acronis agent deployed.
It's managing multiple ESX servers, however, only ESX01-ESX04 are in the cluster, where the VM I'm trying to backup resides.
All ESX01-04 have licences installed as seen in screenshot...

Hi Peter
Thanks for the details, unfortunately the licenses you have seem to be “Advanced Server” Licenses. To make use of the ESXi Agents (Virtual Appliance or the new Windows agent). You need to have a “Virtual Edition” License.

Basically the ESXi/Hyper-V Agents allow you to perform agentless backups of your VM’s meaning you do not have to install an Agent inside all your VM to get a backup.

The following KB articles might help explain things in a little more detail and offer a nice comparison of features between the editions:
http://kb.acronis.com/content/21153
http://kb.acronis.com/content/21154

Advanced Server edition will allow you to install upto 4x copies of the ABR11 agent inside a VM but it will not allow you to perform agentless backups using the ESX/Hpyer-V agents.

Hope that helps clear things up for you.

P.S. If you would like to have a play with the ESXi Agents you can get a Trial key from the Acronis website, insert that into your license server and assign the trial key to the ESXi Agents to give the features a go and see if it’s something you can benefit from.

Hi Datastor,
thanks for the explanation, I've seen ABR 11 Advanced Server (for virtual machine) licences in my licence server, so I assumed it will work with the agentless backup.
Anyway thanks again for the clarification...

Peter
