Time to complete full image backup

Thread needs solution

I have been using True Image Plus Pack, build 6868 for about a month. When I first started it took anywhere from several hours to 8 hours to do a full image consisting of 118 Gb on my Seagate backup drive. I contacted support via chat and they suggested I change my Backup Operation Priority from normal to High which I did. At that time I set it to backup every two weeks starting at 1am beginning today. It did run but took 16 hours and 15 min to complete. Can anyone suggest anything else that may help speed up. Nothing else has been running on the machine since last night other than I checked my email once earlier today in the early morning. I would do the chat session but it just takes flat to long with them and so far I have not hit a tech who seemed to know what to do other than keep referring me to an article. I am attaching a copy of the log to see time frames. I note all hangups even on the ones I did when I first installed for test purposes as well as today's seemed to hang up between step 19 and 20. Today's hangup between the two steps as you can see is 9 1/2 hours which clearly says something is wrong. I am using a Dell Inspirion with 8 gig of memory and an I-5 processor with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Are you backing up sector by sector?
Is J:\ a USB disk? Did you try to change the policy of the disk (device manager, right click on the disk, policy tab)? Optimized for quick removal?
When you copy a big file to the disk, how fast is the transfer?

Run chkdsk -r on the C:\ partition.

Did you try another backup disk?

Thanks for quick reply.
No I am not backing up sector by sector
J is an external Seagate Go Flex that I connect via usb cable
In the disk policy tab the box optimized for quick removal is selected
I have ran chkdsk -r and found no issues
With respect to how fast is the file transfer I don't know what it was. Is their a way I can check. Somehow not sure that an issue since the delay is between step 19 Locking partition C: and Operation started some 9 1/2 hours later.

Hopefully you can give me guidance. I have used Paragon Backup and Recovery for several years but decided to go back to Acronis since they claimed to have prior issues fixed in the current version.

Just copy a big file (more than 1GB) and time the transfer. If the transfer is about 22MB/s, your USB speed is about right.

You can use a watch and count seconds. Doesn't need to be precise. Start timing when you drop the file on the disk, stop the counter when the copy completes. Nothing complicated.

It took me 37 seconds to backup a file that was 96.7mb. I am still confused as the delay is between step 19 and 20 19 being Locking partition C: I didn't think their was any writing going on in the locking process. What is the Locking process anyway? Thanks for your helping me understand.

There must be a mistake: if it takes you 37 seconds to copy a file of 96.7MB, your transfer rate is about 2.6MB/S that's 10 times slower (at least) than what it should be.

You have a problem with your USB disk, driver, USB hub or USB port (unless it is a very slow flash drive)

I still do not understand but appreciate your trying to help. If I copy same file with Paragon it takes 1/2 the time. Also, it is not a flash drive. It is a Seagate Flex 2TB external hard drive connected via a usb cable

OK. Maybe there is a misunderstanding. I was asking you to time a transfer of file done by Windows, not by ATI.

In your case, you have a validation done after your backup, so this roughly doubles the time. Did you have a validation with Paragon?

With ATI 2011, I backup 6GB of data per mn through eSata. On USB, I would guess 3GB/mn.

Thanks, I just did a cut and paste from C to J which is Seagate backup and it took me 10 seconds. I also have done a complete full check of my seagate using diagnostics and it says everything is normal. Again, I really appreciate you helping me. I am getting off now as gotta turn in since gotta get up early. It is 11:35 here. If you have any other ideas or suggestions let me know.

Here is reply I got from Acronis today, less than 24 hours email which worked. It only took 3 1/2 hours to complete during the day. I will do again at midnight just to validate. Thought you would be interested. Again, thanks for all your help.

Hello Charls,

Thank you for contacting Acronis Customer Central. I am Ameen, your support professional.

I understand from your email that it is taking a long time to backup data using Acronis True Image Home 2011.

I am glad to assist you with the issue.

This issue is related to snap api drivers, used by the software to create a backup. I suggest you update the snap api drivers by using the below link:
