TI Home 2011 won't verify

Thread needs solution

Build 6868. I just removed TI Home 2010 and installed this. Backup seems to go OK. The verification starts. I goes quickly at first. Then it reaches time remaining is less the 2 minutes, and stays there. If you don't cancel, it changes to remaining time is less that 1 minute after a few hours. It says that now and has for 6 hours. Then only way I have been able to get out of this is cancel and lose the backup.

What could be the problem? It happens with different external drives in different brand enclosures.

Do you have a long list of partial backups?

Is this happening when you start the validation manually or through the scheduler or immediately after the backup?

You wouldn't lose the backup if you cancel the validation, even if the validation is right after the backup...

It happens when I include validation in the backup options. It's very bizarre. After it sits on less than one minute remaining for a few hours it goes nuts - the time remaining starts increasing very quickly. It just passed 50,000 days remaining.

Sometimes when I cancel when it's saying less than one minute remaining the whole backup is lost.

I know validation is an option when you are recovering. Is there some way to validate a backup without restoring?

Oliver,

Why is the backup lost? I don't understand what you mean.

Are you trying to validate then recover, or are you trying to backup then validate.

You don't need to validate before a restore, or after a backup. You should validate your backups from time to time though to make sure they are still good. This can be done independantly of backups or restores.

The backup is lost in the sense that the .tib file doesn't show. Most of the time is does however,

I was trying to validate as part of the backup process.

I finally found how to request validation independent from either backup or recovery. It's a bit difficult to find. I have a question about it. If a run the validation, I get an icon in the notification area that shows progress. Does it getting to 100% mean the file is validated successfully? It give no other information. If the file does not validate, will I get some kind of error message?

Thanks for your help.

Check the log to see if the validation has been successful (under help). At the end of a successful validation, you should see a "operation has completed successfully" or similar pop up above the system tray icons.

Thanks. I just ran another backup with validation and the log does show successful completion. There is something weird going on and wondered if it could be a program bug. It again, after showing less than 1 minute remaining suddenly started increasing the time remaining as it did before, getting into the range of 62, 000 days (about 170 years) remaining. But this time I also checked the icon showing percent complete and it showed 101%.

Everything seems to be functioning all right, except the program's progress indication.

Oliver,

Just ignore these annoying UI bugs about time and completion. This information has been known to be out of whack with 2011.

I guess I just had to discover it the hard way. Thanks. I think this resolves all my concerns.
