TI 2011 not overwriting previous backups

Thread needs solution

I have a problem with 2011 when I try to overwrite an existing back up - TI doesn't overwrite the old files but instead adds new ones adding more numbers to the end of the file names so image1, image 2 etc become image1, image 2, image 21, image22 etc. The problem is to do with the way TI tries to maintain a database of images. The problem didn't occur with the last version of TI so I have reverted to it.
Has this problem been fixed, or has any workaround been found yet?
I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, different pc's, os's etc but the problem is still there. I got fed up trying to sort it out when TI2011 came out, but I thought I'd check to see if it was fixed yet.
I only want to keep one set of image files.
Thanks

Stephen,

You are right. This is because of how the database works. What are your backup settings? It looks like you have several backup chains running at the same time...

Hi,
I dont intentionally have more than one running - I do a single full backup once a month, overwriting the last backup. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling (in case the problem arose from previous backups from TI2010). Is there any way of turning off the database ( I can easily point to the image file if I need to recover it)

thanks

There is no way way to turn off the database.

It looks like you have some differential or incremental backups going on: when ATI adds a digit at the end of a name, it is for a partial. Full backups can be recognized with numbers in parenthesis (except for the first full).

Are you deleting or renaming files in between backups, manually?

No, I copy the files onto another external (network) drive - I do not delete or rename them. Is there any tool to remove all the backup scripts so that I can ensure nothing is going on?

Download the schedule manager here, and ZAP any task.
Then, go to c:\programdata\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts. YOu will see several files with a key-like name. Right-click on each of them and choose edit. Check the content to make sure the file corresponds to a task you have set up. Delete any suspicious script.
Launch ATI and verify your tasks are still what you want. In particular, verify the backup scheme. Then, open the schedule window, and uncheck the boxes in the advanced settings. Verify also that each task validation is what you want. Uncheck the boxes in the advanced settings of the validation schedule.

Tried this, uninstalled and reinstalled etc. etc. still won't work (i.e. I still get a never ending chain of files with numbers added at the end each time I do a backup.) Back to TI2010 which works. I will take the time to try out the next version before I buy it - I'm afraid I wasted my money on TI2011.
Thanks.

Stephen,

Are you using archive plitting by any chance? I have just seen another user getting this type of file names when he set up ATI to split into 700MB archives.

Yes, I split the backups into 700MB chunks, They are copied on to a network drive, and copying them in chunks means if the copy process is halted it does not have to start from scratch.

see this thread:

It looks like ATI has some naming issues when splitting.
