Backup via FTP
Hello!
I try to explain my problem in English, hoping you understand what I mean:
I try do do some different backups on a WinXP Professional PC. First of all a nonstop backup of volume C: to (internal) volume D:. It seems to work well.
Second I try to do a data backup (incremental) to an USB Seagate Portable that is connected to a Speedport W 723V Router. On the Router I activated a user with full access to the USB device.
In Acronis I clicked on "new ftp connection" and connected to the USB device. So far, so good. The Backup starts as usual, but at the end I received the message that it has failed with the information that the opening of the date stream has failed.
If I do the same to the internal Volume E: everything works fine.
Can somebody help me?
Thank you,
Biggi

Dear Pat!
I would like to share it through the Windows Network. But it doesn`t work. I can only connect via FTP. Don`t ask me why - I don`t know. As per manual of the router it is possible.
Greets,
Biggi
UPDATE:
I finally managed to integrate the usb device into the Windows Network. A full backup works, but no incremetal. I always revceive the info that the opening of archive xyz has failed. Nevertheless Acronis created a backup file. The curious thing is, that if I look at the properties of this file it has been created an hour later than it has really been created... WHAT THE H... HAPPENS HERE???

Yes, FTP is a more efficient way of moving large files over the network than SMB/Windows shares, but sometimes users have trouble with FTP backup.
It is possible that there is a configuration issue (try different user names and passwords on the router, with different access rights) that prevents both a normal window sharing and/or ftp access rights to existing files on the share.
When you say the time stamp is wrong, is it possible that the date of the computer is off. Normally the time stamp of the archive (on a local disk) is the time at the beginning of the backup (not the end).

Dear Pat!
I came to the end that the problem is the router not Acronis.
Thanks for your help!
Greetings,
Biggi
UPDATE:
Any idea why Acronis does not overwrite the full backups? I have chosen "One Version" for my backup and as name "MeinBackup". The first backupwas names "MeinBackup.tib" but the following backups were named as follows:
"MeinBackup.tib_041A0B46-C082-4C86-94AF-F562C3BDBD8E.tib"
"MeinBackup.tib_041A0B46-C082-4C86-94AF-F562C3BDBD8E.tib_8A65CA6F-2BEF-4795-9BCE-768013D37F751.tib".
I am really getting mad...

It looks like there is a bug with naming files when you use the single version scheme. I have seen several users with that issue.
Try this:
- start a new task with custom scheme, full
- turn auto-cleaning on
- store no more than 1 most recent backup
Remember that ATI will always do a new full before deleting the older one. So you need space for a bit more than 2 full backups.
