Updating to build 7160 of True Image Home 2010 fails
Hi
My customer support has expired, so i'm hoping someone can offer a solution to my install problem.
I'm trying to update from True Image Home 2010 build 7154 to build 7160.
These are the things I have tried:
- Deleting of temp files and starting of services as described in the message at the top of this forum.
- Uninstalling True Image 2010 from windows, but the uninstall fails with the same message.
- Scanning registry for the strings that appear in the error message, none are found.
- Restart the computer, delete temp folder,....
The error message is attached.
Finally is it really worth upgrading to 2010 (7160 ) versus (7154) if all I really ever do is make images or complete/incremental backups of whole drives/partitions every month or so.
With the difficulty I am having in something as simple as an install/uninstall, it doesn't fill me with confidence in wanting to upgrade to 2011.
regards
boris

Pat L wrote:You can try Revo Uninstaller and use Acronis as the search term.
You can also manually:
- delete all files and folders containing "acronis", including hidden files,
- in the registry, delete any entry that contains "trueimagehome" or"Acronis",
- in the device manager, uninstall any Acronis device.
Thanks for replying Pat
Forgive the obvious question, but why do i have to use a 3rd party product to uninstall Acronis ?
It would be good Acronis policy and customer relations to provide a cleanup utility if this is a known problem.
I'm hesitant to try the above, as i'm not confident that a remove will still fix the install problem, given the amount
of install issue threads that litters this forum.
For the moment it is not worth my time to explore this situation further, and i just hope that the
build i'm on keeps working as is, or until Acrnois comes up with a better solution.
all the best

One alternative you might want to try would be to restore your drive c with a 7054 backup. This would put you back to the point where 7054 is the current TrueImageHome installed.
Then start TrueImage Home 7060 install program and choose the Repair option. This would install 7060 overtop the 7154.
You have tried the uninstall method so this is an alternative that might work as the upgrade from 7054 to 7160 only changes a few programs.

hdd2ssd,
Hard to argue with you. Reality is that software comes with bugs or issues for certain configurations and not all of them, by far, are fixed by software editors before a new version comes in.
You specific issue will not be fixed by new udpates of 2010 (there will be none) or new versions (installing 2011 or later versions is *best* done by uninstalling first the older version).
The manual registry editing method of uninstall 2010 is pretty easy.

Noticed the cleanup utility in your sig, gave it a shot, and ended up uninstalling 2010 and reinstalling the latest build.
It wasnt smooth sailing though, and the link for the cleanup utility says
" (!) This tool is not compatible with Acronis True Image Home 2010. "
There seem to be some mixed signals here, because in another thread a person pointed to this utility, and when you run it, it does
list 2010 as one of the programs it uninstalls, and yet the message above would make you believe it doesn't ?
The result was the cleanup utility hung, so i had to manually kill it, then restart my machine.
I also had to manually delete a ton of registry entries, for that i used CC Cleaner mostly, as well as some manual deletion.
End result was i finally got the latest release of 2010 installed, although i haven't used it to backup/restore yet.
In summary, one of the messiest uninstall's of a program i've had to do for an upgrade, definitely not user friendly in any way, and something Acronis really needs to address.
Thanks

hdd2ssd.
Congratulations on your perseverance. Lets hope the uninstall of 2011 is easier. I know you were not much interested in Revo but it does work pretty good and it is free for personal use.
