Manage This Machine is Greyed Out

Thread needs solution

Hi. Sorry, but ABR is very confusing for me. When I open the ABR Management Console, I cannot use the Manage This Machine icon to connect to the agent, because it is greyed out.

However, I can connect to the local host using the shortcut on the left pane (underlined in purple). I can then make backup plans, etc. Is there a difference and why can I not use that function?

Thank you.

Hi bert, you could try and Login to AMS and expand phisical Machines then click on All Phisical Machines and click Add Machine to AMS Icon & try to add the Local machine again, don't know if this will work but worth a shot

I tried. It wouldn't allow it as it is already accepted. Boy, I have used Acronis for years, and this ABR is complicated. But, I will keep trying to figure it out. Luckily support is great.

Thanks.

Hi bert, yes at first it is a bit complicated but stick with it, go back to same screen and highlight the machine and click remove (X) and then re add the machine, this is what I done before and it worked for me, something is corrupt it seems hey!

Acronis couldn't even fix it. Then I figured out the problem. He didn't even see the problem when I told him.

What was happening was I was not using the console being directly in front of the server. I was using Remote Desktop to remote to the server. Therefore, it would allow me to log into the machine when clicking on the machine itself, but the icon for "connect to this machine" was greyed out, because I wasn't actually on that machine.

As an aside, I have been wanting to move my server (which is louder than a jet engine) to the basement, and I could always remote in from my computer to do maintenance and things. But, it is times like these that concerns me about that.

Thanks again. I knew we would figure it out.

Hi bert, I have tried the same thing you tried & it works ok for me, I connected via remote desktop from one of my terminals to the Acronis Management Server and was able to click on manage this machine it was not greyed out, see screenshot.
dont know if this was the same way you tried?

Hmm....that's strange. Computers can have a mind of their own. It made sense why it wouldn't work for me as it does say "manage THIS machine," but then it is remoting into THAT machine. Oh well.

I really appreciate your help. As an aside, I think your inside IPs, e.g. 192.168.1.x are safe to see, lol.

Now, if I can just figure out why sometimes the backup icons look like the old ones (the kind of gold-looking ones) and sometimes are blue. (But, that's probably a different thread.

Bert

Hi bert, yes that's strange why it was greyed out on your machine, but I would have thought being your effectively taking control of that machine when your doing remote desktop that it should let you manage the machine as if you were sitting in front of it, I'd thought it would be interesting for me to try, even though it's kinda thrown a spanner in the works.
ps yes hiding internal ips is being a little bit too paranoid, just force of habit

I have learnt a lot from just reading forums, good place to get help hey!

On purpose, because if you create task to run under 'this account' (the default behavior) when logged in using rdp, it may not work. So 'manage this machine' is disabled for rdp session to force you to connect to machine with login and password.

Similar to my thought above. But, I think you said it better. And, confirmed it for me.

Thanks dev-anon.
