Connection to License Server on 'localhost' broken

Thread needs solution

I've just about had it with ABR11, it's simply not functioning in my infrastructure and it's left my entire network vulnerable. I have to manually make backups of all the important machines. I can't seem to get ABR11 to cleanly install. Consistently I get this error

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Management Server
Code: 06442595
Line tag: 0x5845d9b169714cf3
Message: Connection to license server 'localhost' is broken.

Suberror

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Agent Core
Code: 013763087
Line tag: 0x851efe822fcbb38d
Message: Failed to add the machine to the management server.

Suberror
Code: 014417921

Message: The operation has timed out.

I used the most latest download of the software, the file ABR11A_17217_en-US (note the underscore versus the .) and have had no luck. I've completely removed the software from my server, from all program components to SQL 2005 and the database files and even the registry entries and program directories. I've reinstalled and nothing has changed.

And if you suppose that the error is simply an installation fluke, the problem is that the software does not properly recognize my licenses. The machine it is installed on is a SBS 2011 server with Windows Server 2008 R2. The SBS license should include Universal Restore, but that doesn't get installed. When I try to install my separate Advanced Server license on one of the virtual machines on my second server, it claims I don't have the licenses.

Hello Ali,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here. I understand your concern, and will be glad to help you.

Unfortunately due to the lack of sufficient investigation information it's hard to localize the cause, and we'll need additional data. Could you please specify:

  1. Whether you have tried to install the License Server onto the another machine,
  2. Wireshark logs
  3. Exact sequence of steps performed
  4. Screenshots of the issue

Unfortunately Forum is not a Support Channel, but a Community, but I understand how inconvenient the situation is. I will create the case for you and send you a follow-up from it.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Replied via email but have had no response in a week. Any news? Or is it time to look into Symantec?

I have exactly the same issue on my server, totally unprotected with this version of ABR.
Also, before I uninstalled the product for the first time, the license server managed from the console of AMS, when I searched for my license usage, it showed only one license and I actually had 5, when I clicked refresh button it showed all the licenses, I clicked refresh button again and it showed no license at all.
Why is this behavior so abnormal?

Same problem for me. Acronis Backup & Recover Advanced SBS Edition 11 on SBS 2011. Only doing local backups, but they started failing about a week ago with the "license server unavailable." Tried to upgrade to the latest release and the Management Server component installation failed. Removed the entire app and tried to fresh install the latest build with the same errors.

Techs (both levels) were no help. The last guy told me it was an issue with SQL 2005 32-bit on a 64-bit OS and that Acronis Backup & Recover Advanced SBS Edition 11 wasn't compatible with SBS 2011. WAKE UP ACRONIS! This is ridiculous. I have 2 other clients with similar builds that aren't having issues, and this was working fine 2 weeks ago!!!

At this stage I'm probably going to be looking for a refund since SBS 2011 "isn't supported." All I can say is I'm VERY disappointed that I rolled out Acronis to so many of my clients and now this is happening.
