Comparing backup and current original disk

Thread needs solution

My C drive had a minor hemorrhage. And index was damaged. Chkdsk either made it worse or better. Not clear.

There are applications that will not run. Files not found.

Downloaded a couple of compare programs to see what is different. I do not want to simply restore the entire drive. There is data stored on there by various programs that I need to keep. I don't know what or where these files are. None of the programs can see anything but the highest level of the Acronis TIB files. While Acronis gets between these archive files when using explorer and I can see individual contents, none of the compare apps can.

Is there anyway to fix this so I can compare contents of C and an archive of C?

Have you tried using the "mount" option for the backup. The mounting will add the backup as a virtual drive with a drive letter. Maybe the compare programs could do a compare between the actual and the virtual. When mounting the backup, do not mount an unlettered drive.

The drive containing the tib files is fine and has a drive letter.

The applications can not see the contents of a tib so it can not access the files for comparison. Only the files inside can be compared to the boot drive.

As Grover suggested, you need to Mount the image to a drive letter and then see if the compare programs can see it. For example, you would Mount your backup image of C: to Z: and then you can browse Z: as a drive. If the compare programs see Z:, they should be able to do the comparison. See this KB article.
