Acronis backup software is just not reliable
I presently have Acronis® True Image Home® version 11.0 (build 8,101) on a Win XP SP3 platform and have been trying make this software work for >3 years. It will occasionally work for a couple of weeks without intervention, but that's about it. For example, I've attached a partial list of some of the (different) ways the backup failed this week.
In the two "not enough storage" cases, one of the backup drives had 300GByte free and the other had 50GByte free. The other errors seem clueless.
Technical support in the past tried to be helpful, but the net result is that I spend hours running around in circles, always e.g., uninstalling/installing updates, running new background tasks, restarting, constant back and forth trying to write clear explanations etc.
I'm not a novice to computing, having spent 20 years working 40 hrs/ day in front of a computer and having used 100's of programs on every operating system since the days of CP/M and S-100 bus systems.
If there's something obvious going on her let me know. If not, I'll be downloading the WinZip backup software.

>..FPGA/PLD software, does it contain large files
These are all less than 150KB. I don't really know what the extensions mean, as these are created by the FPGA s/w tool for its own use. As you can see they are 8 levels deep.
The Roxio file is 37KB.
>Do you have anything like volume shadow running, bitlocker or similar?
No.
>Distributed Link Service
This is set to automatic. I'm reluctant to turn it off without knowing what this will do.
I've changed my settings to just do data files and this seems to work ok, but its not what I wanted to do. I just don't have time to investigate these problems.

DLS, is really for machines on a network, and isn't really required for standalone machines.
What it does is track things like desktop icons and locations of files on many computers. So if you have a number of PC's connected on a LAN sharing info, if the user of PC_2 deletes or moves a shortcut that shown and available to PC_1 and 3, their shortcut information will be updated to be the same as the owning computer.
If you are doubtfull about disabling DSL, I suggest making it Manual, that way if a program needs it it will request it start, if it doesn't it will stay stopped.
I think DSL may be the cause of your problems, it often doesn't play nice with Acronis software, or the other way round. :)
I have Altera VHDL on my XP partition and TI 2009, and haven't had the problem you've reported.

I'm only backing up only "data" now, but still have misc problems. After working ok for a week, Acronis is giving me errors in reading data during verify, complaining that it was likely a "bad sector". (Log attached).
However, I immediately did a disk check using the Window's tool and didn't see any errors. Nor have I had any other problems with that particular drive.
I haven't turned off DLS yet, but I assumed this shouldn't matter for simple data files.
Any ideas here?
