Acronis and Seagate firmware upgrade utility

Thread needs solution

Just a heads up. Seagate's hard drive firmware utility is powered by the Acronis boot loader.

In Windows 7 booting from this utility (necessary to reflash the hard drive eeprom), causes the MBR3 error to appear on rebooting into Windows.

For me, I can still boot, and for the moment am just ignoring the message, but for some this might make your machine unbootable and you'll need to repair the bootsector by booting the system with your Windows 7 DVD.

Hello Colin,

Thank you very much for sharing this information with us!

Could you please clarify the exact actions you did? Have you tried to fix MBR after that error occurs?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hi Alexander,

I downloaded the Seagate hard drive firmware upgrade tool (MooseDT-SD1A-2D-8-16-32MB.iso), burnt it to a CD and then booted the machine. The Acronis loader started and then loaded the Seagate utility. Perfomed the firmware upgrade, exited from the utility which reboots the computer.

I removed the CD during the reboot.

Afterwards I get the MBR3 error. The machine displays the error message and then boots into the Windows 7 boot manager.

I haven't run a MBR repair as yet, and probably won't until this weekend.

Hello Colin,

This CD is just based on Acronis loader, but the product itself is supported by Seagate. We are not trained to resolve the issues with their products. Could you please contact them and ask for assistance?

Thank you.
