Shadowprotect incompatibility

Thread needs solution

I am a registered user of True Image Home 2011 and Shadowprotect Desktop v4. However I am not able to run both programs on the same computer due to what are said to be compatibilty problems with 'snap man.sys' a file installed by acronis software.

I would like to upgrade to TIH 2012 but only if these compatibilty problems have been fixed.

Has anyone else come across this problem and also has there been any change since TIH 2012 came out.

Thanks

Tungsten,

I can't tell you if the problem has been fixed, but I can tell you that SNAPMAN.sys has been renamed and now lives in a different filters entry to that of 2011. That might be enough to stop the compatability problem you had.

I think you will find problems likely trying to run any two backup/imaging programs on the same machine, even two version of the same brand. Such programs tend to reach too deeply into the system to tolerate each other.

Your best bet, if you try this, after following Collin's suggestion is to manually start the services for either program when using it and turning them off when using the other. I.e., try to not have anything form either running at the same time.

I will try a TIH 2012 trial version and see if this incompatibility is still present.

I also have a registered version of Disk Director and this too will not run alongside Shadowprotect.

What exactly does snapman do? Can Aconis TIH work without it?

I've read somewhere that it monitors changes to files. If this is right, why should it affect a
Disk utility program like Disk Director?

No, TIH can't work without the snapman driver, it is the program that takes snapshots of your disk to allow imaging whilst you are using the PC, it also interacts with Windows drive managers.

Other programs have their own versions of snapman, though they might give it other names.
