Creation of Server Image ..... how??

Thread needs solution

I purchased Acronis Server Backup 10 under the impression that I would be able to create an image of the Server (not individual drives), for disaster recovery purposes - unfortunately, I have not found any procedure on how to do so. Is there anybody who can help out with a way to do this?

Thanks!

Hi Pat,

All that is required is for you to select 'backup' by default ABR10 should select all the HDD's to backup (ensure this is the case) then select the destination and ensure VSS is enabled to also protect VSS aware databases..etc..etc..

If your system crashes you can restore all disks or just one if you like (eg, if an issue has only occurred on the first disk or even partition you only have to recover that single partition or disk, there is no need to recover all disks/volumes as it can be time consuming.

All the best.

Thank you very much for the hand - I'll give it a shot! The backup stuff is intimidating! You're putting all of your eggs into this basket not really knowing if it's going to work until there is a failure - definitely the wrong time to find out that you did it wrong.....

Hi Patrick

No problems, please let us know how you go, it should work well for your needs. What I generally suggest to any customers is to always test your backups and your boot CD on your server/system to ensure it boots as expected and you are able to browse your network, see all HDD’s as expected and even connect a USB device to ensure that’s working as well... This way if/when a disaster hits you can be more prepared, are familiar with the required process to recover and know the boot CD you have can be used to recover from network shares, USB devices and your destination HDD is detected. (this can save allot of down time for you in the future).

What I would also suggest if possible is to even go through the entire restore process if it’s possible such as in a Virtual machine. This way you can understand the entire process of the restore/boot CD and feel confident using them. I always find preparing ahead of time generally can saves you allot more time when you need to get back up and running ASAP when things go wrong.

If it’s the first time you have used the product it can definitely be intimidating but play around with it and have a flick through the product manual and I think you’ll feel allot more comfortable :-)

Any questions you can always post them in the forum there is many very helpful members.

All the best !
