Will it use the first full backup or the second full backup for scheduled incremental backup in this case?

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have made a manual full backup and then I create a task to schedule daily incremental backup automatically. So now, I have the full backup+day1 incremental, day2 incremental, day3 incremental....

A few months later, I decide to make a full backup manually again. When the schedule task is running the next day, will the scheduled daily incremental backup that I created earlier on use the new (second) full backup as the "base" or will is still use the old (first) full backup and as the base?

Thanks

Using Acronis TI home version 11 build 8101, win 7

Did you make the second full backup to the same location? It's difficult to tell which full ati will count as belonging to the task.

Ime, it's best to put manual backups on one place and scheduled tasks in another.

If you look in ATi and it lisst both full backups under the schedule task, then it should count the newest full as the one against which to make incs. If it lists them separately, then it should make incs against the one listed under the task.

Yes, my second full backup is in the same location as the first full backup.

"put manual backups on one place and scheduled tasks in another." > I thought incremental scheduled task needs to base on a full backup, so they should be in the same location. I did not schedule any full backup because I only need to do it for one time.

"If you look in ATi and it lisst both full backups under the schedule task, then it should count the newest full as the one against which to make incs. If it lists them separately, then it should make incs against the one listed under the task." > How do you check this? Kindly provide me the steps. (I only made one scheduled task, that is the daily incremental backup. I did not do any scheduled task for full backup. All the full backup I did was manual.)

Is there a way to let my future scheduled incremental backups base on the newest full backup?

Thanks

From the main screen in ATI you can see a list of the backups that have been made. They will either be grouped together or listed separately.

I do not know what you mean by "main screen". Can you tell me the steps to reach the main screen that you are talking about? Thanks

I think you need to spend some time time with the user guide.

I have read the documentation but I am not sure what is the "main screen" you are talking about. A simple 1. click xxx, 2. click xxx, 3. click xxx... to reach the "main screen" would be great. Thanks

My main screen consist of icons only. Here is the screen shot:

Ah, sorry. I didn't know you were using such an old version -that's not bad, I use some older versions on some machines too.
Which version in particular are you using? It looks like 11 to me but it's been awhile since I looked at an 11 screen.

Iirc, ati11 had probs hadling incs correctly but you never know until you try on your machine. To test make 2 full backups, then an inc, then move one fo the fulls to some other drive and then try to do a validation from the inc, if it was based on the missing full, it will tell you it can't find it; if it doesn't complain, then it's based on the one still in the directory. Eiother way you'll know how it goes.
