Thread needs solution

I find it amazing how many issues/problems users are having with Acronis. Every version seems to get worse, there's always a new GUI (less user friendly than the previous), and reliability has totally disappeared. I quit using this at version 11 and have never looked back. I return to this forum just to see what OTHER problems users are having.

Give it up. Quit buying/upgrading this software. Nothing has changed for the better but maybe, just maybe, less revenue obtained from this God awfull product will make them "think" a little.

A very satisified "non" user.

I don't like the new GUI either. Senselessly repackaged & re bundled, complete waste of time if you ask me. I've spent the last 3 days troubleshooting a restore issues to later read an article explaining all usb devices must be detached or cloning & restoring is unsuccessful. So Acronis is not compatible with a usb mouse & wireless keyboard so how am I suppose to backup and restore ?

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I really liked Acronis but I don't support this sleezy attitude at all, Especially the amount off different versions that exist that are essentially the same. Gives me one BIG HEADACHE.

Hmmm.... Interesting. Do you use an alternative?

I totally agree Stacey.

When supporting IT users networking wise, initially I loved it, even with a few wobbles, but I sometimes feel it's losing its way.

Real pity.

I also think the home products are not quite as good, but maybe thats my imagination.

Pete... I use Ghost 2003... yes this is a DOS version that still runs fine with PATA, SATA, with my 500Gb drives, and any external USB drives.
I boot from a memory key that has Win98 (Dos) on it. I've been using this method since the 2003 version came out (actually been using Ghost since 1998) and it just plain works. There is a Windows app that lets you restore individual file(s) from the image. Restoring full images is a snap. Keep in mind that Ghost was purchased by Symantec and they basterardized it. I do not recommend their Windows versions. I know I am dating myself but when it comes to backups, I don't screw around. I want something reliable, safe, and easy to use and Ghost 2003 DOS does it... period.

Aha !! Robert this is a case of Full circle !

:-)

I know what you mean.

I also tried various Ghosts but only ever found 2003 reliable and reasonably fast.

Once again 'the developer/marketing desire' to present 'a better GUI', more facilities, adaptability with new OS's etc, resulted in discovering that 2003 was simpler and worked more often with less problems than the other versioins.

See the other post from Stacey here about Acronis (and others) going the same way instead of just getting it to work 100% of the time.

The issue for me was building versions which worked with various drivers for various computers. This got - well - basically too consusing. But I did find the R*df**d forums useful.

I started with Ghost, and changed when the other versions were too slow, too many coasters were made, and too complex issues.

Full Circle

Thanks Robert

Agreed, although I actually thought it was going to be a superior replacement for Ghost when it first became available. (Yes, I was around then and made the switch.) I suppose I've stuck with TIH ever since mainly because I've been reluctant to change my primary recovery tool and its format for backup files. But since they only maintain limited backward compatibility themselves, that hardly seems like a valid reason for the longer term. I've also appreciated the capability for TIH inclusion in a Windows preinstallation environment along with other emergency repair utilities, although that is also getting a bit tougher with 64-bit operating systems. Not sure I could even remember how to set up Win98/DOS. :)

TIH may not be quite so frustrating if one stays a full version behind the Acronis "upgrade" cycle. By the final release of any given version they've usually managed to fix most of the core issues, more or less, that always seem to (re)appear in each of their "latest and greatest" initial releases. Even then, that doesn't necesarily include all of the various "new and improved" interface features that were introduced for marketing that version, but whether any of those superficial gimmicks and gizmos are actually worth fixing is another question entirely, of course.

Its too bad but Acronis had! a lot of promise. I think it could still become a really good product if they concentrated on fixing the problems, instead of making it look nicer. I suppose that can be said for all software. I was using Acronis just for my daily file backups (no images) but I came across Genie Backup Manger 8 Pro and it works really well although it does not have any "imaging". Genie-Soft keeps promising a new version 9 that will have imaging but that was announced more than a year ago and still nothing. They shut down their forum, due to maintenance they claim, but that was 6 months ago. I'm beginning to wonder about them. Oh well... at least Ghost works.

Cheers... Bob

I'm totally supportive of this thread. This company should have a big internal push towards quality and focus on fixing the numerous bugs in True Image. Credibility is going down the drain unless they get this "beta" software into a true, working, reliable, final version.

I've been using TrueImage for years and I have been satisfied with it also for years. But these years are in the past!
I feel about the same frustration as mentioned above! The Gui gets worse and worse! Now I got an error in the Zuverlässigkeitsüberwachung from the Sync Service which I don't use (the support is informed).
Really too bad. TrueImage WAS such nice piece of software...
Edit: Just tried Todo Backup: That is how it should be..

I made a decision!

Iwas using TI as a loyal customer for 10 years with 11 registered and payed products. After trying ATIH 2012, I could not even istall that trash in a brandnew Win7 SP1 system, I raised a service case and did not get an answer within the next 10 days.

I successfully requested a refund and that was it. I installed 2011 again. After a week or so I thought that can't be it. I uninstalled 2011 and instead of an "Acronis Secure Zone" I eventually now have an

"Acronis Free Zone"

Since that time I am a happy user of "EaseUS Todo Backup 3.0" free version. To my surprise I am not missing any of the core features of ATIH, I have not seen any bug within 3 weeks, I do not have to pay a "Plus Pack" to have a WinPE backup medium, I ......., it is just perfect!

What I am missing is:       BSOD's, freezes, ruined BCD's after Recovery, install problems, uninstall Problems, not responding Service Centers, ..... (the list is just too long).

All I can say is: Good luck to you chaps!

Armin.. I have been looking into Todo Backup also and have heard many good things about it. I will post my experiences here.
That's what I like... competition.

Robert...

I been using EaseUS TODO FREE BACKUP also for about 3 weeks. This thing flat out works no matter what.

It worked even when Acronis and Paragon both failed.

Also the support for TODO even answered my emails, even tho I was a free product user.

I'll have stick with my old Acronis version 10 solely for the fact to view my older images. When I get the energy one weekend, I'll probably get another external hard drive, undo those images to a partition, and then re-do them the EaseUS.

Hi

i also had a try on Ease TODO Backup.....
Summray:
1. only that it dosnt support GPT holds me from changing my backup program.
2. from some pov its looks little like a clone from ATI also if this clone is reduced to the max

"Also the support for TODO even answered my emails, even tho I was a free product user."

Well i cant say any words against ATI Support. Thy really tried to take care about my issues and ..... to be Support staff for Acronis is really no easy job as they have to clean up what Acronis mamagement did as they pressed the release button for ATI2012.

Full ACK to all the posters above.
ATIH2012 is just not worth it. TI has become junk software messing up my data and wasting my time!
Checking out alternatives too.

Today I saw this humorous article at http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/11/04/bofh_2011_episode_17/ .

Sadly, it reminded me of True Images history (as well as several other software products lately...)

Hilarious! But also very sadly true.

Acronis is certainly not alone with their useless and defective gimmicks additions, but they may be somewhere near the front when it comes to screwing up the product core with their "marketing genius." Perhaps not the most brilliant developmental idea for a "rescue" utility in particular.

Their "compute with confidence" motto is rapidly and increasingly becoming a self-mocking irony. Any software that can't even uninstall itself cleanly sure doesn't inspire my confidence, especially one that leaves behind drivers and filters and causes blue screen halts on supplementary "cleanup" attempts. I finally got rid of it completely (except WinPE emergency recovery builds on bootable eSATA) but it wasn't easy.

Gregory B. Just an FYI... I thought I was seeing things... i'm B. Gregory
I checked out the URL you mentioned... yes it's said and true, but as Richard states above, this is a utility that is supposed to save your butt. From my reading on this forum, its doing anything but that. Maybe there should be a thread for all that have had success with Acronis, whatever version it may be. Again I have to say, it has real potential. Can't you see this Acronis... fix the interface and all the other problems and you may be surprised at how this same forum changes their tune.

Your statements have merit. The question is will everyone's product quality concerns actually be addressed with implemented superior quality control and not just empty words from the captain that the ship is unsinkable.

Loved Ghost and it worked for me flawlessly until Symantec managed to turn Gold into Rock. I sure hope you actually validate / restore periodically. Once I was using the Symantec infested version I had random data restore failures (regardless of the hardware, all enterprise class equipment). Acronis has had some great releases of the ATI product but the vision is lost on "them" and not the "end-user". Time will tell. Think of a bright future, it just seems the black cloud is filling the entire sky...

I only use the DOS version, Ghost 2003, and works without any problems. I wouldn't even attempt any of Symantec's Windows versions.
Sometimes old is better.

Bob

HI,
my final message here.
I got my money back and I have quit on Acronis.
Sad story.
Good night and Good Luck.
