Some presale questions (Upgrade from TI Western Digital edition)

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Preface:
I want to buy an external hard drive for backups and there is a version of the product called "TI Western Digital Edition", that is free, but have a decreased functionality.

1) Can I upgrade from WD Edition to TI 2011 or 2012?

2) Is there a non-stop backup function in WD Edition? And CloneDrive? Or this version contains only the standard backup-copy functionality?

3) I don't really understand, wheather this copy free for everybody, or only for WD cunsumers? I've downloaded it, and it is free. There also no hints on serial numbers, activation keys and so on.

I'm currently testing TI 2012 (my next topic is about this testing), and I don't want to remove to for testing this WD Edition. I'm also absolutely unsure, wheater it's possible to have both at the same time. My behaviour can seem to be lasy, but I think, the answer can also be interesting for the future forum guests.

I want to be sincere with you. Since the feedback shows, that TI 2012 is quite raw at the moment, I'd prefer to use TI WD Edition (the other reason is my need to have an external drive) for 2-3 months and then upgrade.

However it is actually good, that the forums are not censored. This politic helps new customers and increases herewith the trust (some people can laugh, but it's really so)

WD Edition is based on TI 2009 so it's a couple versions older by now.

1) I think there is a discounted price to go from the WD Edition to the Full version, however, I haven't looked at the free versions in a while so I don't know for sure.

2) It will clone and create/restore full images -- just the basics.

3) The program checks that you have a WD drive connected. It won't run if it doesn't find one. Otherwise, it's free to use. It does have a "key" but it's automatic (you don't enter it). This can cause problems when trying to upgrade or when reinstalling TI. If you "upgrade" from the free edition then you have to have the free edition installed to install the TI upgrade. Otherwise, you have to contact support to get it sorted out. Kind of a hassle, in my opinion.

Don't install both versions at the same time. It's just asking for problems (assuming it even lets you do it).

TI 2012 is still very new and the forum reflects that. It's really no different than any other new releases. Also, keep in mind that people come here for help so the number of people with problems here is always high compared to those without problems. I suggest you continue the trial and see how it works for your needs. That's a much better test.
