What trigger to use for backup jobs on notebooks
We are planning to use ABR 11 Advances Workstation for Notebook backups. While testing the product we found that there are many triggers available on backup plans, but none realy fitting our needs. Time-based backups make no sense since it is not predictable where the notebook is located at the scheduled time. We tried the option "On logon". That works as long the notebook has a network connection. If it happens to fails because the notebook was startet offline it seemd that the backup will never start again. The AMS just shows that backup plan as idle with an error on status until the job is manually started.
When a notebook is started, the agent should check whether there is a wire speed connection to the backup depot and, if that is the case, start the backup if this is the first backup on that day. Idealy the agent should ask the user before, and maybe have an autostart with a delay if there is no user reaction.
Has anyone an advice on notebook backups?
Thanks,
Peter

I am interested in the workstation backup, especially on notebooks. Also any effects from bitlocker.
Is this a Block level backup? or what is the concept and your strategy to maximize the efficiency of a backup routine?

Bitlocker is mentioned here: http://kb.acronis.com/content/1734
Personally I'm not at the point of maximizing efficiency yet. I'm still at the point of getting a few tester's backups running reliably. If you plan to use ABR, the only thing I can advise you at the moment is: Be sure to have support & maintenance. You're completely lost without.

Documentation seems to be rather lacking.
To say the least.
