Hi

I am having problems trying to clone my existing windows 7 over to my brand new laptop (and even vmware). I have a Acronis True Image Home 2010, and i believe it supports Universal Restore.

I made a Bootable Rescue Media with my true image 2010 and tried to clone it on a VMware, and it failed. Do i need to purchase anything else to clone my existing machine to a brand new laptop?

I even tried to use Acronis Backup & Recover 10 Workstation (10.0.11105) w/ Universal Restore to clone to my brand new laptop, but it failed as well.

The only thing that manages to work is recovering and backing up on the existing desktop.

What could be wrong?

Try making an Image first .... then restore that Image to the new laptop using the Bootable Rescue CD. The UR option should show up then. An external hard drive would facilitate the process - put the Image on it. You will have to have the drivers for the new laptop available during the process - you can put them on the external hard drive for easy access.
