Acronis B&R 10 Installation fails every time on Windows Server 2008 SP2 64bit

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I now tried it 8 or 10 times to get Acronis B&R v10 installed on a Windows Server 2008 64Bit Machine. This maschine is part of a Cluster ... but we do NOT use Acronis as a Cluster Application ! We only want to create images of the "stand-alone" systems.

It doesn't matter using the "BackupRecovery.11105_s_de_Windows.exe" or the extracted MSI-Installer-File. The error is always the same !!

I even tried to uninstall the whole Acronis installation the manual way .. but without success.

Maybe one of you support-guys are able to analyze the attached logfile...for my person I don't know where to look anymore....

Thanks

Hubert

Hello  dwelle,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

We have released a new build of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 (build #11133).  Please download and install the latest build. You can learn more on how to download the latest build here.

See if the issue remains. If the issue still persists, please obtain the new msi log file and attach to your next post.

Thank you.

@ Oleg,

I tried the newest build, but the problem still resists..... see the attached MSI-Logfile.

Thanks

Hello Hubert,

Thank you for the provided information.

Most probably, the installation failed due to traces of a previous installation attempt. Remove the traces by deleting the following registry subkeys, and re-attempt the installation:

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\COM3\SelfReg\CLSID\{79079D5C-EF20-4952-B9FC-CFD443B38641}

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\COM3\SelfReg\SnapVssProvider.SnapVssProvider

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\COM3\SelfReg\SnapVssProvider.SnapVssProvider.1

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Providers\{f782463b-33bb-4043-ad8d-60b728d26a6c}

Please let us know the results.

Thank you.

Hello Oleg,
thanks for the info regarding registry-entries. I deleted them....
A short question during my next installation-attempt....

What account has to be used for "Account for Acronis Managed Machine Service" and "Account for Acronis Service User" ?

I take the "normal" Domain-Useraccount of this system...is that correct ?

Result of the installation, 10/22/2009: Failed.
See the attached MSI-Installer Logfile.

Addtl. information: This is a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 64Bit System !!
Memory (RAM): 12 GB
The machine is part of a 2-Node-Cluster. Acronis will only be used for LOCAL images, NOT as a cluster-application !!

Thanks

Hubert

Hello Hubert,

Thank you for your response.

For each service, you can either create a dedicated user account (recommended in most cases) or specify an existing account of a local or domain user—for example: .\LocalUser or DomainName\DomainUser.

In an Active Directory domain, we recommend using an existing domain user account instead of the default account.

Acronis products can not back up the virtual server itself but can back up and restore physical nodes as usual Windows servers. If the iSCSI/fiber disk is managed by the node that is backed up, then Acronis product will back up this disk. If this disk is offline, the product will not find it and will not back this disk up.

Thus, Acronis products can back up nodes and virtual storage resources and there is no need to do any additional steps to back up a node within the cluster.

About the installation issue. I suggest you to wait for the next build release. We expect it in October, 31.

Install the Agent, and in the case of failure issue the following command:

msiexec.exe /i AcronisAgentWindows.msi IGNORE_VSS_REGISTRATION_ERRORS=1

The issue should be resolved.

Thank you.

Hello dwelle,

Thank you for the provided information.

To resolve the issue please do the following:

Click Start -> Run and type in services.msc to get the list of services.

Please make sure that the following two services are running:

COM+ System Application
Distributed Transaction Coordinator

If all of them are started, then check that COM+ is not broken by opening it manually (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Component Services -> Computers -> My Computer -> COM+ Applications -> System Application). If at any of the steps there appears an error message, then COM+ Application is broken. If it is broken, please try rebuilding it as described in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 318731 (see Resolution, steps 2 and 3).

Please keep us informed.

Thank you.

Hello Oleg,

we have now stopped trying to get Acronis running on the system.

Additionally we have decided to use Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2. There is a built-in function in this OS to create an image of the system (called a .vhd). This runs very stable and fast !!!

Creating an image tooked about 6-7 minutes and restoration was done in 5 minutes !

Anyway...thank you very much for your help !
