HDD-Clone will not start

Thread needs solution

Hello!

I have Acronis TI 2012 and want to clone my to small 100GB Windows XP Professional SP3 harddrive of my HP Compaq NX6310 to an new 320GB-harddrive. The clone-procedure ends ok, but the clone will not start in the notebook. The (newest) BIOS accept the 320GB-harddrive, but after notebook-selftest the display stay black an windows don´t start. With the old harddrive booting is ok.

Can somebody help me?

How did you clone the drive?
AFAIK there are two ways:
1) With TI2012 running on the XP computer and with the new drive attached (via an USB box).
In this case a live clone is done, which to me seems unsafe.

2) After attaching the new drive (via USB) to the laptop, boot it up on the TI rescue CD (which you must first make of course).
Then use the clone drive function to clone the internal drive onto the external drive.
When it finishes, shut down the laptop and replace the drive inside with the new one.

I have done this many times (albeit with older versions of Acronis True Image) and it always worked just fine.

But I found that the only way to make it work was actually to do the cloning on the laptop itself!
Cloning on a different computer never worked, it resulted in a non-bootable image on the new drive.

Thanks a lot BosseB!

I tried the way cloning to the new drive via USB at the laptop an booted with the rescue-CD. But the clone-drive doesn´t boot in the laptop after cloning!?
Then I´ve taken both drives in a Tower-PC, connected them via SATA and started with the same rescue-CD. After cloning the clone-drive works fine in the laptop! I don´t know why, but I am happy about this......
