Migrating files, different systems
Is this possible?
I have a laptop with 32 bit XP PRO sp3 Centrino, I want to migrate files to a 64 bit Amd quad windows 7, can it be done?
Thanks, John

I agree with Scott. Even though some tools exist to supposedly migrate everything, including applications and settings, to a new dissimilar OS, I wouldn't do it. Especially with older applications, I've often needed to make adjustments when moving to Vista or Windows 7, such as running in compatibility mode or installing patches. I wouldn't trust any tool that said it could take care of all that automatically.

Yes, I haven't even seen a program that claims to move files between OS's, the new lap is a Dell m5110, 1.5g of dedicated video memory, AMD quad, A8 Vision processor gaming machine for $649 Nice fast machine.
Old machine, Dell E1705 Centrino, 1 g of ram slower than molasses.
If you hear of a program that claims to move programs from 1 OS to another, I'd love the hear about it.
Thanks, John

Hmmm, doesn't W7 claim to do that if you stay on the same hardware -- i.e., upgrade the os from Vista (and only Vista) to W7 with programs remaining in intact, but you have to read all the fine print. It's usually easier, and more reliable, to reinstall.
