As we get closer to ATI2010 release...
I'm sitting on the fence. I want to buy ATI, but with 2010 being in beta, I'm wondering if I should wait instead of buying ATI 2009.
So does Acronis usually have a period where if you buy the current version, you get a free upgrade to the newest? Or will there be a point where the price of ATI2009 will significantly drop in preparation for ATI2010's release? How does it normally work when a brand new version is about to come out?

I did test ATI2009 on a spare laptop and it worked well. However, I'm also intrigued by ATI2010's online backup feature. So I'm torn. :)
I guess I'll have to wait a bit more. Thanks.

That backup feature is something I will never use - not when external hard drives are so inexpensive to the point that one can have a backup for the backup drive.

I don't want to be burned like my brother in-law. Literally. He had a house fire and lost everything. Backups and all. He was doing backups to a Linksys DNS-323 and that burnt down too. So I want some files to be backed up in the cloud in addition to imaging my computers on an external drive. Mostly photos, home videos and some important documents. If one package can do it all, awesome! I'd rather not get Carbonite, Norton 360 or other products if I can get away with it. I know there are other ways to be secure like taking your external drive out of the house, etc, etc... I'd rather have something simple that works in the background, but that's just me. My brother in-law's loss is not something I want to go through. However, if it's something Acronis will charge extra for or offer too little space, I'll reconsider.
I think I might join the ATI2010 beta to check it out.

On on-site backup isn't really a backup. It's more of a convenience. Most people will tell you that ideally you should have an onsite backup in addition to the offsite backup. The offsite doesnt necessarily have to have all of your files but it needs to have the critical ones. In addition to fire, flood, power surge, and other natural disasters there is also theft which may be an even greater risk. Is someone breaks into your home the computers are highly marketable and they probably wouldn't leave the external drive behind.

The online backup is for files and folders only, not a complete disk image.
I imagine there will be a storage charge at some point.

How do I get the 2010 Beta. That may help me solve my installation problem. Another thing to try.
I have not been able to install 2009

Not sure where the link is now, they might have decided they have enough beta testers, check the sticky in the Acronis news concerning online backup, the link might be there.
I have not been able to install 2009
I think I might might have answered that problem in your thread.

Hello Marc,
Thank you for your interest in [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/ | Acronis True Image Home 2009]]
According to Acronis Upgrade Policy a free upgrade to the new version of an Acronis product should be provided to those customers who have purchased one of the following:
Home products
• An instant download of the previous version of the product within 30 days before the new version release;
• A physical box with the previous version from an authorized retail store either within 30 days before the new version release or at any time after;
• An Acronis Maintenance and Priority Support (AMPS, RMPS) License or an Acronis Term License (check out the period and product stated in the License Certificate to make sure the license is valid).

What is an "instant" download?
A new full version instead of an upgrade?

I think it just refers to purchasing the program and then having it be "instantly" available for downloading. I would think that an upgrade would qualify, but that's just a guess on my part. The full version would definately qualify.

Go to http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ on the right side of the page look for "Open Beta Test" and click on it and follow the bouncing ball.

There's no stated date for release of 2010 and even if there was, Acronis might change it. So there's no guarantee what date is 30-days before release of ATI 13/2010. If you buy now, you might be able to new-grade from ATI 12/2009 to ATI 13/2010 and you might not. Also, the next version might and might not work on your machine -- just because a prior version worked doesn't guarantee that a future version will. If the price of the product is an important sum to you then I recommend that if you're satsified with ATI 12/2009 then buy it. If you're seriously interested in ATI 13/2010, then wait until it's released and you can test the released version.

Except that I get lots of bluescreens on TDRPM228.SYS (an Acronis file) if I also have Norton 360 3.5 (certified for Win7) installed as well.
